Around 1915, O'Sensei Morihei Ueshiba created aikido, drawing inspiration from a number of martial arts fighting techniques and blending it with his own philosophical principles. It's this sport, combining combat techniques and self-defence, that Patrice Audren, a qualified EPA-ISTA teacher and volunteer president of the new Sèvres club, presents here. Aikido teaches you to use your opponent's strength to your own advantage. It is the other person's difference that enables the fighter to progress, through the development of concentration and coordination of body movements in space. Gradually mastering stress and aggression, this is a good way to regain or boost self-confidence. You'll need a thick kimono or tracksuit to take part. The first introductory class is free of charge.
