Petit Futé's opinion on AÎTRE SAINT-MACLOU
After two years of work, the Saint-Maclou aître was redone. The place is quiet and shady. And for good reason, you are here in an old mass grave, built as early as 1526 to bury the victims of the plague. Initially piled up in the centre of the cemetery, the bones were then moved to the upper galleries to save space and create this square courtyard. The half-timbering also has explicit figures and symbols: skulls, crossed shins and gravediggers' shovels. There are also two art galleries and a café.
