The Church of Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc, built in 1979, features beautiful stained glass windows.

Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc was built in 1979. Its architect, Louis Arretche, wanted to give the building the shape of an overturned boat. He revived the principles of traditional shipbuilding by creating an exposed wooden structure above the nave. As the church is below the nave, the view is impressive, both from the narthex (raised part) and from the fish-shaped exterior openings. Very beautiful stained glass windows to be seen from the inside.

Ungewöhnliche und mutige Architektur aus den Siebzigerjahren. Errichtet an der Stelle wo Jeanne d‘Arc auf dem Scheiterhaufen starb. Besondere Verwendung fanden die beeindruckenden Glasfenster der von Bomben aus dem 2.Weltkrieg zerstörten Kirche St. Vincent. Da hinein wurden Bilder von Jeanne d‘Arc eingebracht. Wunderschön anzuschauen, besonders bei richtigem Sonnenstand. Eine Kirche mit einer besonderen intensiven Atmosphäre. Ein lohnenswerter Besuch! Hat mir persönlich mehr gegeben wie das Innere der Cathedrale von Rouen.

The church is situated near the market square. The sanctuary itself is impressive due to its shape but also the fact that is was built where Joan of Arc was burnt alive. The history of it is sad and sitting on the market close to the execution place as well as looking at the church causes deep thoughts revolving around history, religion, life and death that come to mind.
