A memorial unveiled around a tank, retracing the battle of Le Havre, known as "Operation Astonia".
Operation "Astonia": this is the code name given to the battle of Le Havre planned by the Allied General Staff, following the "Overlord" operation, the Normandy landings. Le Havre was one of the major ports to be taken back from the Germans. On September 10th, at 5.45 pm, the final assault began. Fontaine-la-Mallet being close to Le Havre, it was not spared. A clean sweep was made of it. On September 10, 2000, a memorial was inaugurated around a Churchill MK VII tank.
