L'Alternative Urbaine is an association under the French law of 1901 that makes people discover cities in a different way. It does not employ guides, but scouts. These are people who are unemployed. They follow a two-month professional training course, then they are paid to lead walks. Bordeaux has a dozen scouts who show people around the city in their own way, in small groups to preserve the conviviality and exchange of ideas.
