Vauban was originally designed with two doors. The door of France was destroyed in 1892, while the Brisach gate remained massive for more than three centuries, north of the Pentagon, which formed the fortifications. Located at the end of the rue de la Grande Fontaine, in the northeast of the city, Brisach bears witness to Louis XIV's magnificence and power: the flowers of the liking of the royal crown, the king's emblem and its motto «Nec pluribus impar» (Above all).
