Large stone statue, 22 metres long and 11 metres high, symbolizing the strength and resistance of the city of Belfort.

With its 22 m long and 11 m high, it is the largest stone statue in France. The Belfort lion is the symbol of the city, a symbol of strength and resistance and from which Belfort gets its nickname of Lion City. Made in a dominant position by Bartholdi, between 1875 and 1880, as a reminder that the Belfortins were the only French people, along with the inhabitants of Bitche in Moselle, to contain Prussian power. The Lion is located at the foot of the castle in a Vauban fortification complex. In the Lion's shop, souvenirs in the effigy of the lion!

Je ne connaissais pas du tout Belfort !!!!très bel endroit chargé d histoire !!!le lion de Bartholdi est magnifique !à noter que si vous regardez attentivement le lion à la bouche ouverte pmais pas de langue !à vous de trouver pourquoi ?????????j ai rencontré lors du feu d artifice impressionnant tiré au dessus du lion ,des gens très sympathiques ,deux jumelles !si elles elles lisent mes commentaires elles se reconnaîtront !!!toutes mes pensées pour vous !c est Francoise ????????

Visite à faire,d'autant plus si vous aimez Vauban...
Tout est en état, au bord de la vieille ville de Belfort très bien réaménagée...
Une halte s'impose pour apprécier le Lion de Bartholdi.

Essendo uno dei monumenti più visitati ma non avendo nulla di particolare e nemmeno molta manutenzione, non vedo perché pagare l'entrata. Comunque storicamente interessante.
