The Édouard Thiers Battery, built between 1890 and 1891 to cover the Salbert and Mont Vaudois forts, is a unique intermediate structure. Designed to counter infantry infiltration, it combines 90mm cannons with 120mm long-range guns. The structure represents an architectural evolution, with underground accommodation for more than 250 men and an ingenious integration of rock into its construction.
