DAN CROSS

The 12-metre-high cross (visible from the town center) dominates Poligny. It is said that 20 oxen were needed to erect it. Was it erected by a noble couple in memory of their son who threw himself into the void out of love, or simply to protect the town from the evils of war? Its origins remain a mystery... The view from here extends over the entire valley, the vineyard hills and the verdant Bresse plain. On a clear day, you can even see Dole, more than 30 kilometers away.
