The oldest and largest cemetery of the Chartreuse located in the former gardens of the Carthusian monastery at the end of the century
The Chartreuse Cemetery is the oldest and largest in the city. It was built at the end of the 18th century on the former gardens of the Carthusian convent. In the alleys the tombs of several personalities such as the painter Francisco Goya, who died in Bordeaux, (his body rests today in Madrid, a monument is dedicated to him in the cemetery), Charles-François Delacroix (father of Eugene Delacroix) and Flora Tristan (woman of letters and initiator of feminism in France).
