For more than 50 years, the NIS (National Real Estate Corporation, a subsidiary of the Caisse des Dépôts) has been the lessor of public sellers such as the Department of Defence, but also of Justice, health and education. Over 80% of its tenants are from the public sector, half of them from the Department of Defence. The NIS also contributes to the increase in the offer of intermediate rental units in France. Composed of 5 establishments in France, covering the entire territory, it builds its own housing itself or uses the SCI of the Regions, a subsidiary established in 2004 with the Caisse des Dépôts to produce and manage intermediate housing. In total, it manages more than 81 000 housing units, including more than 10 000 units spread over 18 departments located in the regions of Aquitaine, Midi-Pyrénées, Limousin and Poitou-Charentes: 4 902 rental units and 118 gendarmerie barracks.
