Benedictine abbey, classified as a historical monument, with a magnificent façade and a remarkable Romanesque portal, to be visited in Blasimon.
Between 721 and 724, the Benedictine monks of the Exempts congregation, originally from the Abbey of Saint-Jean-d'Angély, founded the Abbey of Saint-Maurice in Blasimon. Classified as a historic monument, the site is particularly noteworthy for its superb facade and its six-arched Roman portal, which bears witness to exceptional sculptural work. The sculptures adorning the portal are considered to be the most remarkable of this period in Gironde. All the voussoirs appear to represent the Sermon des Saintongeais. Booklets are available.
