PLACE PLUMANCY
A remarkable square with a beautiful fountain built in 1890, it's the oldest traffic circle in Périgueux, and well worth a visit.
Some may see it as just a traffic circle, but it's the oldest in Périgueux. Previously known as the "Place ronde Saint-Martin", this hexagonal square has been named after military subintendent Jean Plumancy since 1866. The fountain at the center of the traffic circle was built in 1890 to distribute water to the neighborhood. American troops stationed in Périgueux compared it to the Statue of Liberty: it stands in the center of the square, and is built of Charente limestone. Fragile, it requires frequent restoration.
