VILLA MAURESQUE
The façade of the Villa Mauresque, adorned with a dome, is of oriental architecture: original! The interior is not open to the public.
There's more to Périgueux than Saint-Front Cathedral! Just look up and you'll come across an architectural gem: the Villa Mauresque. Built in the 1860s, its oriental inspiration and remarkable dome stand out from the rest of Périgueux. What's not to love? The symbols engraved on its façade: crescent, Jewish cross and sun. Between 1939 and 1940, it housed the Sainte-Odile hostel, where Alsatian refugees found a little respite. The interior is not open to the public, but its history is well worth a look!
