As is so aptly stated, the Theatre du Portal Sud is located… just opposite the South Gate of the Cathedral. From the old cinema that was installed here in the last century, it only kept the name and facade of white stone. But since then, it has grown considerably, and today we can see around this old window, a metal lace that gives its appearance to the imposing building. If it can give the impression of being still in work, the interior of the cinema is very spacious - with the exception perhaps of the entrance hall, which is crowded when the crowd presses to see one of the films in the poster. Fortunately, the rooms are very comfortable and rather elegant. Every week, more than films are offered, and there are usually for all tastes. As for the price of entries, they are unfortunately available (the cinema can afford it, as it has the monopoly over the chartraine agglomeration), but know that if you are amateurs of fast food you can benefit from various discounts in the restaurants Mc Donald's Chartres, thanks to your movie tickets. It was in the prestigious and intimate part of Saint-Julien Chapel that the Threshold Theatre was elected. From October to May, and surprise surprises, this little theatre offers you programming rich in musical emotions… among others. For it is, above all, a theatre, hence the splendour of the French language: some parts are of course programmed; and above all, the end of the year shows with the shows of the workshops. Indeed, the Threshold Theatre also has the status of theatre and dance school, for small and large. Particularity of this theatre school: it engages with atypical school-based schools, providing courses for people with disabilities for example.

Over the past thirty years, the Théâtre en Pièces company has become a fixture on the Chartres cultural scene, and with good reason. The company regularly presents readings, performances, debates and exhibitions in its charmingly cramped Théâtre de Poche at the Abbeyes Saint-Brice and at the new OFF theater in Chartres.
