Lille guest house with a breathtaking view of the Citadel.

L'Esplanade is one of Lille's favorite guesthouses. For its setting, first and foremost, with a breathtaking view of the Citadelle. A ^19th-century house of character, L'Esplanade harmoniously blends genres, enhancing the original architecture with designer furniture and exceptional works of art. In fact, l'Esplanade is also an art gallery! The rooms are sober and uncluttered. Tastefully decorated, they are spacious and pleasant. The bathrooms have been fitted out for a real moment of relaxation.

Disappointing! Do not recommend. A most sterile/unappealing stay. Where do I begin? No warmth or hospitality. Cold ambience. (And I have no problem with a modern aesthetic.) Not a hotel, B&B or guest house as promoted by numerous online resources. No breakfast as promoted either. No reception or any human contact whatsoever. All key codes. No elevator, which was never mentioned and we were on 3rd floor. No one to assist with bags, questions, directions, etc. Breakfast was not included as advertised. Amenities were bare minimum. No safe. No safety lock on door. Not at all convenient to Lille sights. The list goes on… Bottomline: stay elsewhere.

The hotel service is very organized and we received all the information upfront for a smooth arrival. The hotel is very pretty, smells really good. The room we stayed in was spacious and tidy. I recommend this place if you are looking for a hotel to stay in while in Lille.
