GOLDEN GATE THEATRE

The Golden Gate Theatre is an entertainment venue located at 1 Taylor Street at the corner of Golden Gate Avenue. It opened in 1922 as a vaudeville house and later as a large movie theater. In the 1960s it had a Cinerama screen, but by the early 1970s it had declined and was only showing blaxploitation films. It was restored and reopened as a theater in 1979. Today, this charmingly old-fashioned building hosts spectacular musicals from Broadway.

Opened in 1922, the Curran Theatre is one of San Francisco's largest theaters, having been able to accommodate 1,600 patrons since renovations in 2017. Before each performance, you can also participate in the ticket lottery for US$ 29 - a certain quota is set aside for the lucky ones!

WAR MEMORIAL OPERA HOUSE

Founded in 1923, the San Francisco Opera is home to the city's opera and ballet. The season runs from September to June and the program is very rich. The architect Arthur Brown Jr, a former student of the Beaux Arts in Paris, designed not only the War Memorial Opera House, whose foundation stone was laid in 1931, but also City Hall, the famous Coit Tower, the Veterans Building, Temple Emmanuel, and the Federal Office Building. His acoustics were greatly improved in 1980.

THE STANFORD THEATRE

Then, falling into ruin, it was not until the late 1980s that it was rehabilitated. Opened in 1940, this venue built in the Art Deco style has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2016. While the Palladium today hosts fairly large concerts with an eclectic program, it also hosted radio shows in its early decades of operation.
