SHILOH NATIONAL MILITARY PARK

Natural site to discover

Shiloh was the theater of a bloody battle which lasted two days, April 6th and 7th, 1862, and during which 3,500 soldiers died. Les Confédérés were defeated by the troops of the Union whose reinforcements arrived by inland waterway on Tennessee River. Shiloh one of the first battlefields is transformed into place of commemoration after the war. On the spot, not to fail to visit Shilo Battlefield Visitor Center and to follow the film devoted to the historic reconstitution of the battle. It should be noted that name Battle of Pittsburg Landing indicates the same battle. A 23 miles in the Southwest, Corinth (the Mississippi) was the seat of another bloody battle which followed that of Shiloh. A visit in the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center which is there is a good way understand the link between the two battles. This center is part of Shiloh National Military Park besides.

LAUREL FALLS

Natural site to discover

The national park has a large number of natural waterfalls. Among them, the waterfall Laurel Falls is one the most visited of. Accessible by Laurel Falls Trail, a paved path of 2.6 miles round-trip on which there can be world in summer. The visit is worth: the fall is about 25 metres away.

Yahoo Falls is located at the northern end of Big South Fork. They high, 35 metres away are the largest waterfall in Kentucky. A path in loop 1.6 km allows you to get the base to the summit. Locations of picnic are nearby.

TWIN ARCHES

Natural site to discover

The Twin Arches (North Arch and South Archs) are located in the centre of the park. It is the progressive erosion of the rock that supports them who shaped these two so-called twin arches, because having the same origin. South Arch is the largest of both, 31,4 metres high and 21,3 metres wide. North Arch has a height of 18,9 metres and a width of 15,5 metres. These arches can be reached by a short kilometre footpath around Twin Arches Road. Count 1 hour round-trip. On the site another 7 km (Twin Arches Loop) trail allows you to take a nice walk in 3 to 4 hours.
