Shiloh was the scene of a bloody battle that lasted two days, on April 6 and 7, 1862, and during which 3 500 soldiers were killed. The Confederate were defeated by the Union troops whose reinforcements arrived by river on the Tennessee River. Shiloh is one of the first battlegrounds transformed into a place of remembrance after the war. On site, don't miss visiting Shilo Battlefield Visitor Center and follow the film dedicated to the historic revival of the battle. Note that the Battle of Pittsburgh Landing designates the same battle. 23 miles southwest, Corinth (Mississippi) was the seat of another bloody battle that followed that of Shiloh. A visit to the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center is a good way to understand the link between the two battles. This centre is also part of the Shiloh National Military Park.
