L'échappée belle invites you to take a quiet, gourmet break. Here, you can sit back in comfortable armchairs and revisit the world over a hot drink and homemade cake. There are many choices available with a menu that follows the seasons. You will find permanent references such as salads, wraps, sandwiches and quiches as well as current suggestions to vary the pleasures. On the coffe-shop side, Izee suggests all sorts of refreshments such as organic and fair trade coffee, tea, chocolate, juices and smoothies.

Located in the village center, this century-old tea room and chocolate factory is part of Perros' heritage. From generation to generation, people come here to enjoy a cup of tea accompanied by a fine pastry or homemade macaroons. The place has retained its old-world charm, with long blue tablecloths, dark wood panelling, a stone fireplace and chandeliers. Try the two house specialties, invented in the 1930s: patate de Ploumanac'h, an almond paste rolled in cocoa, and granit de Perros, made with orange-scented white chocolate.

Laurence Sarfati has opened this friendly tea room which offers one or two dishes of the day and salads at lunchtime: chicken curry korma, pork with caramel, goat cheese salad with sesame for example. The rest of the time, we offer teas from Japan, herbal teas or apple juice selected locally and sweet treats. Laurence keeps her warm establishment alive all year round, notably by organizing philosophy cafés, readings and exhibitions. Nice decoration and atmosphere also make this place a must-see.

Like Caroline, the new manager, it's hard not to fall under the spell of this warmly atmospheric tearoom tucked away in a pretty alleyway. She offers a wide selection of hot drinks, juices and ciders, as well as homemade cakes, savoury snacks and, every first Sunday of the month, a brunch. An original, gourmet offering that's sure to grow. Everything is organic and, wherever possible, local and seasonal. To prolong the pleasure, the boutique allows you to take away handcrafted objects, sweets and loose tea.

Bluebird Coffee takes us somewhere between California and Australia. The 4-metre high ceilings are filled with a myriad of rattan hanging baskets. With its small wooden table, side table and pastel banquette, this is a place to share good times at lunchtime, nibbling on grilled cheese, avocado toast or a bento. Stop in for a generous snack, including a delicious New York-style donut and a gingerbread latte. The many juices are made fresh with the finest ingredients. You can even come for breakfast: there's nothing like starting the day with a peanut butter bagel! The atmosphere is relaxed and cosmopolitan.

It's with a great deal of heart and dignity that you're served in this café unlike any other, since most of the staff are mentally or cognitively handicapped. The first solidarity café of its kind in Rennes, the place lives up to its name. The team welcomes us with a smile, and serves up some particularly tasty classics.
