In Breton bara means "bread" and gwin means "wine". You can't go wrong! This friendly, unpretentious bistro is just a stone's throw from the Saint-Louis district. The owner offers wines from all regions of France, purchased directly from producers. We like his selection of natural wines with mineral notes. You can also drink local beers. As for the restaurant, everything is homemade, practically made in front of you. The menu is full of surprises: simple dishes with tasty, well-balanced flavors, carefully presented, and a wine and food pairing to match! All with excellent value for money: an address to follow!

ANDY LE MABILAY

Cocktail bar
4.5/5
26 reviews
Open - Close to 01h00

"Frivolous brasserie and intoxicating cocktails" set the tone for this new Rennes venue, which revives the Mabilay, the emblematic cigarette-shaped tower. Both a bar and a restaurant, we discovered it when it opened in September, one foot on the terrace, the other inside to soak up the 70's ambience. The work on lighting is superb, with a deliciously subdued atmosphere in the evening. The cocktail menu allows you to discover the art of mixology. We pounced on the Crazy Andy, tasted the tapas with our fingertips - arancini, beef gyosas and Lebanese hummus - and let ourselves be captivated by the DJ's eclectic music. It's a place that's sure to get the Rennes parties going!

Open since 2018, the place is now part of the soul of the Recouvrance district and part of the great collective energy that drives its shopkeepers. With its cosy decor, you'll soon feel right at home, with books perched here and there to catch your eye. Of course, the hardest part will be leaving. So stay a little longer. Before you leave, don't forget to ask where the name of the restaurant comes from!

BAR L'AQUARIUM - CASTELBRAC

Hotel bar
5/5
1 review

Push the superb 1930s door with its fish motifs and discover an enchanting place.

Housing the former aquarium of the museum, this place has now become a very cosy bar. With a particularly successful Art Deco interior, inspired by Jules Vernes, sublime mosaics and soft colors. It is also about enjoying one of the delicious house cocktails of the chief bartender Anthony Bertin or sharing the pastries of the pastry chef Annabelle Levêque. Very very good!

LA BAR À MINES

Caf philo et littraire
5/5
1 review

Lovers of very drunk parties, don't limit yourself to the primary meaning of this bar. You will have understood to which common expression we are referring, but before we stick one on, this is a place to admire the work of the pencil... in front of a pint or a glass of rum of course! Here Thomas and Sylvain have completed one of the pieces of the puzzle already in place in the Saint Hélier district: the world of comics. There were already a few stalls dedicated to the genre, but not of this type! Here the independent comics and the fanzine are enjoyed with a slice of sausage and a beer, because there are things that are more beautiful when you live them together! Enter the den and you will understand when the walls lined with comic book boards reveal themselves before you. Your visit will be punctuated by the discovery of a universe between art, literature and street art: a counter surmounted by a mechanical shooter straight out of the steampunk universe, toilets and an inner courtyard lined with frescoes and graffiti, a fanzinothèque and comic book library corner like a boudoir for the most absorbed, and works exhibited all around you. A program of autographs and artistic performances will brighten up your evenings. A concept to water body, heart and mind!

A highlight for the Interceltic Festival of Lorient, since in 2020 it will celebrate its 50th edition! And it is Brittany that will be honoured. For your information, the FIL is 10 days of festival, 4,500 artists from all walks of life (singers, dancers, musicians, visual artists, academics, filmmakers...), 120 live shows, many volunteers and more than 700,000 festival-goers who can attend, among other things, interceltic nights, concerts (free or not), or the grand parade... Having become a real intercultural crossroads, we can only advise you to come to Lorient in August to discover this family and festive atmosphere... The tone is set.

TY'KALL

Bar and caf
5/5
1 review

Now a fixture in the Recouvrance district, Ty'Kall is a major contributor to the positive energy on the other side of the bridge! A bar like no other, it welcomes you for a drink, but more importantly, to meet up and play board games. Many of the regulars and Brest locals passing through take to the game. All generations mingle, and the older ones don't hesitate to initiate the younger ones! More than just a bar, it's a lively place where concerts and conferences are also organized. A place to discover!
