Practical information : Move & Laze around Jamaica
Budget & Tips
The free beaches are not easy to find; everywhere they are either privatized by resorts or paid. But we indicate them in this guide. You can do Jamaican rafting, tubing on the rivers, golf, one of the most popular sports on the island, and water sports on the coast. It is necessary to count between 80 and 100 US$ for 2 persons for a Jamaican rafting trip, and generally in the 20 US$ per park entrance, for example for the Blue Hole, the YS Falls or Dunn's River Falls, tubing costs in the 30 US$ per person, swimming with dolphins in the 100 US$ minimum.
What's very local
The main activity of Jamaicans on weekends and vacations, which is very original, is the Jamaican rafting. In reality a very soft descent on a bamboo raft with a comfortable seat and a captain who navigates in the currents of the river wrapped in a luxuriant jungle and its enchanting birds. We bathe in the translucent and fresh water... In Lethe, the atmosphere is very local and we get a foot massage with limestone clay.
To be booked
Remember to book your entrance to the big parks such as Dolphin Cove to swim with the dolphins in high tourist season.
Main events
The Reggae Marathon, a 10 km half-marathon in Negril takes place every year during the first weekend of December. The program includes an international atmosphere worthy of the biggest marathons, a gourmet pasta party and numerous reggae concerts the day before, a race in the good mood of the early morning to not suffer too much from the heat, and a refreshing swim in the turquoise water of the 7-mile white sandy beach once the race is over. The reggae marathon invites you to come for the run, and stay for the fun !
Tourist traps
There are always touts who will want to guide you around waterfalls, rivers and other water features (Blue Lagoon, Blue Hole, etc.). Continue on your way to the entrance and politely refuse their help.
