The structure was rejuvenated and creolized with the arrival, in 2009, of choreographer Pascal Montrouge, who will remain at the helm of the Théâtres départementaux de La Réunion (Teat de Champ Fleuri in Saint-Denis and Teat en plein air in Saint-Gilles) until 2023. Dance, theater, circus, concerts, festivals (Totototal, 7 Soleils 7 Lunes, Total Danse)... Artists from all over the world jostle each year in a rich and varied program. Following in his predecessor's footsteps, Thierry Boyer's ambition is to make cultural events accessible to as many people as possible.

A concert at the open-air theatre in Saint-Gilles is unforgettable: extraordinary acoustics, exceptional atmosphere. What happiness, under the stars. Two stages: the first welcomes 1,000 spectators; the second is reserved for more intimate concerts. Don't forget to take a cushion because the seats are made of concrete. That's right! The theater is also listed as a historical monument for its brutalist architecture using concrete exclusively. The architects Jean Tribel and Gilbert Royer were the ones who achieved this feat between 1968 and 1970.

One of the last neighbourhood cinemas with a human dimension. In these two small cinemas, the cinema offers mainly "mainstream" films: action films, science fiction, romantic comedies, animated films and blockbusters. However, not so long ago, the balance with auteur cinema managed to be maintained. Although well situated, cinema is still a sure bet for a night out at the movies. Clever tip: arrive on time... the entrance to the projection room is at screen level!

You may be on holiday in Reunion Island and feel like going to the cinema, especially if the cyclone rains have forced you to cancel your day's hike. Then head to the Duparc shopping area, located near the airport, where a large multiplex with ten spacious and comfortable rooms awaits you. The Ciné Palmes offers both big-budget and auteur films. With a huge car park and a wide range of restaurants, you will have plenty to spend a long time there.

As the only national drama centre outside France, it is both a theatre production and broadcasting centre, and is also involved in supporting contemporary writing. Under the direction of Luc Rosello, the programming will surprise you. It is an opportunity to discover, in a beautiful setting, the talents of the Indian Ocean, but not only, as the team also invites circus artists, musicians and DJs. Let yourself be carried away!

New skin for this space, which attracts spectators from the four corners of the island. Les Bambous theatre is a place where you learn to discover not what you like, but what you could like. Hats off to the Clameur des Bambous, thanks to whom many unknown people have made their talent explode. It is also possible to have dinner in the evening during or after the show, by reservation. A varied and daring program, contemporary and rooted in local tradition, with theatre, dance shows, concerts... Ask for the program!

This open-air site hosts the very dynamic stage of the Séchoir. Contemporary music concerts, shows "outside the walls" and shows on Leu Tempo festival... A space that we really love. It can accommodate 500 standing places in "concert" configuration and 270 seats in "tiered" configuration. Its ideal location allows you to start the evening with a good restaurant, then go and listen to your favourite band and finally relax and rest your overheated toes on the sand of the lagoon. And why not a night swim.

Having served in turn as a school canteen, wedding hall and tobacco drying shed, this Piton-Saint-Leu venue now hosts live shows. Le Séchoir, Réunion's "andemik scene", is a multicultural, cross-disciplinary association (which we are particularly fond of) that organizes concerts, film screenings (some of which are open-air), conferences, dance and theater performances, and offers courses. This is also the venue for the not-to-be-missed LEU Tempo Festival d'arts vivants. All in all, a wonderful initiative.

Alain Courbis gives the Espace Leconte in Lisle a new lease of life and offers an attractive program. Cinema, dance, theatre, exhibitions, conferences, concerts... The small hall favours intimate evenings and surprising encounters. We particularly like the promiscuity of the artists (professionals or amateurs) with their public and the historical conferences on Saint-Paul. Together with the Cerise, which is their neighbour, many festivals are organised. You can have a drink there before the start of your evening or during intermissions.

The Kerveguen is the cultural place of Saint-Pierre. Located on the banks of the Rivière d'Abord, facing the port and next to the TAAF headquarters, this 800-seat hall hosts concerts, shows and cultural events. Guided by the desire to surprise, amaze and, above all, share, it offers a very eclectic program, with all types of music and for all ages. International artists share the bill with the big names of the Indian Ocean and young locals in the making.

The Cité des Arts is a new addition to the island's cultural establishments, and is intended to be multidisciplinary and open to all. It is conceived as a village where it is possible to stop to eat, watch the dancers train or (re) discover the Palaxa in its new setting. Its programming is also very rich and varied. From an architectural point of view, the Atelier Architectes has proposed a building designed like a monolith sculpted by the wind and rain in the image of the ravines of Reunion Island.

The Theatre Under the Trees is an open-air theatre playing with the setting as a backdrop. It offers a program full of poetry, comedy and sometimes drama. Didier Ibao took over the artistic direction of the theatre in 2017 for our great pleasure. Before each performance and one hour after, drinks and corks are offered, which will allow you to discuss the creation you have just discovered. You will also discover that it never rains at the Port, as few performances are cancelled due to bad weather.

After two years of construction and a cost of some twenty million euros, the brand-new Ciné Grand Sud opened its doors in Saint-Pierre in April 2023, adding to the cinephile offering in the south of the island. It boasts ten "state-of-the-art" cinemas (including two equipped with Dolby Atmos sound), with a capacity of almost 2,000 people. There's also an area dedicated to arcade games and a food-truck to stock up on bouchons, samoussas, sweets and various drinks.

Within the Moufia University, this room hosts many events throughout the year. Festivals, cinema, dance, etc. A beautiful poster, sometimes free of charge, which honours both student talent, university conferences and debates and professional companies. Original and amateur formations rub shoulders with headliners, all this in a small room that creates a certain intimacy with the artists. On the other hand, the site does not offer a restaurant or bar. You will have to take the car back.

A dynamic cultural establishment, which offers the City of Le Tampon a quality programming throughout the year. Theatre, dance, music, comedy, screenings, conferences, young audiences... the show comes in all its forms for a varied and often enticing line-up. The hall also exhibits creative artists, painters and visual artists. Very dynamic, this film Diffusion association, which is essential to the dionysien cultural landscape, regularly organizes workshops, debates and, above all, projections of documentaries, animation films, author cinema or video art. There are meetings scattered across the city: Leo Dierx Museum, Departmental Library, Téat Champ-Flowered… Not to mention the Château Morange, which hosts every year (since 2010) the Air current documentary Film Festival, in September, as well as the Jeune Young Public Festival, every two years in May. Labelled Scène de Musique Actuelle in 2007, the Kabardock has become an unmissable cultural venue. By succeeding in the gamble of a daring programming in a burgeoning city but often wrongly ignored by night owls and tourists, this structure also welcomes choreographers and dance companies. Finally, the variety of rooms (café/cabaret, auditorium and concert hall) allows you to discover the artists in unusual atmospheres. All the rooms of the Kabardock are accessible to people with reduced mobility.
