Getting around by train Sweden

Traffic can be heavy at times, especially during rush hour, but the good general organisation means that traffic flows smoothly most of the time, so no worries. The train also runs here and the line is connected to Malmö Central Station by the City Tunneln, which is very convenient!

Centralen is the railway station, where you can also find the subway, commuter trains and the Arlanda Express, which connects the airport to the center of Stockholm. It is organized on two floors: from the first floor, you can access the mainline trains, and the basement allows you to reach the Pendeltåg (the equivalent of the RER) and the Tunnelbana (the subway).

The train floor also has small cafes and restaurants, so it's perfect for a snack before departure.

TheInlandsbanan, which means "inland line" in Swedish, is a railway line belonging to the Swedish railway network, crossing the country from south to north and connecting the cities of Kristinehamn and Gällivare. The Inlandsbanan is 1,288 km long and passes through breathtaking scenery, making it one of the most beautiful railroad lines in the world.Tickets are purchased per section of route and the price depends on the length of the journey you wish to take. Seat reservation is SEK 50 extra.

SJ is the national railway company. It serves all of Sweden, but also Oslo, Narvik, Copenhagen, and since 2022 night trains go to Hamburg and Berlin. The trains are very comfortable, fast and clean, and the landscapes you travel through on them are sometimes breathtaking. It is by far the best option to travel within the country. As far as prices are concerned, the fares are affordable (especially if you book in advance) and there are discounts for young people, students and seniors.

The station was built in 1879 by Adolf W. Edelsvärd, entirely in wood. A very beautiful and old station!
