Looking for a shuttle bus to the capital from the airport? Airport Direct is there for you! Keflavik International Airport is about 50 km from Reykjavík, with an average journey time of 45 minutes. To reserve your seat, you can use their website, their service desk in the airport lobby or their self-service kiosks. When you step outside, their buses are easy to spot thanks to their orange color. Good to know: Airport Direct also offers a shuttle service from the airport or center to the Blue Lagoon.

It welcomes all international flights. It is located at the tip of the Reykjanes peninsula near Keflavik, about 50 km from the capital. Although the airport is open 24/24, it is forbidden to spend the night (despite many flights early in the morning).

If you want to enjoy the Icelandic nature close to the capital and walk in peace, discover the island of Viðey. This island off Reykjavík is only accessible by boat. Don't worry, the crossing is short, about fifteen minutes from the Old Port or Skarfabakki in high season, only from Skarfabakki in winter. Once arrived, you will discover a now uninhabited island, on which only two houses remain: the oldest stone house in Iceland now transformed into a café and an old church.

Need a taxi in Iceland? BBS drivers can take you anywhere in the country. BBS (Borgabilastodin) was founded in the Icelandic capital in 1952. In more than fifty years, the company has only moved three times, to adapt its offices to its growing success. On its website, you can find all the fares charged by the company, as well as typical fares from the capital, for often used routes (Blue Lagoon, Grindavik, Selfoss...).

It's the departure point for most regular buses, shuttles to Keflavik airport (such as Fly Bus) and excursions from Reykjavik. The building may not look like much, but it has ticket counters, a recommendable cafeteria, toilets, an info point and luggage storage, which is always accessible. From the bus station, you can walk to the capital's city center in around 20 minutes, mainly through residential areas.

To get around the capital, Straeto's famous yellow buses are at your disposal. The service is generally very punctual and friendly. The network map is displayed at most stops, and you can obtain a free Reykjavík Bus Map from tourist offices. Good to know: the free official Straeto app offers a handy live tracker of buses on the road, but you have to use the Klappið app to buy tickets online, which sometimes has bugs.

Want to get to Akranes by public transport? You'll need to take the Straeto buses, recognizable by their yellow and red colors.

Bus 57 (Reykjavík-Akureyri) serves Akranes from the capital in around 45 minutes. From Akureyri, the journey is much longer, taking around 6 hours! The routes remain regular, with no less than 11 buses a day to and from the capital on weekdays, 6 or 7 on Saturdays and 8 on Sundays. See the website for timetables and routes.

Vik is a small town on the south coast of Iceland. However, there seem to be a few options for getting to Vik by bus. The STRAETO bus company runs a line (no. 51) from Reykjavik to Vik, departing every weekday except weekends. It's important to note that bus timetables in Iceland can vary from season to season, so it's advisable to check before planning your trip.

Be careful not to confuse this airport with Keflavik, which handles most international tourists. The domestic airport is so close to the center that, in fine weather and with little luggage, you can walk to it along Njarðargata. By bus, you can reach it by taking line 15 from the center (Hlemmur station). It mainly handles domestic flights or flights to the Faroe Islands and Greenland.

Hreyfill is a taxi service often used by big hotel chains like Hilton. We can understand it when we see the seriousness of their website (rare thing for a taxi service in Iceland), with in addition an application to book your driver in advance. Generally punctual, the ride from Reykjavik is still at a fairly high price. A good option if you have an early flight and want to avoid walking 20-30 minutes to the station: take a taxi from your hotel to the bus station, and take a shuttle bus.

Iceland is no exception to the electric scooter trend. Since 2019, Hopp's mint-green electric scooters have arrived in the capital, offering over 3,000 scooters scattered throughout the capital! Practical, the service lets you rent your electric scooter via an app, and can be preferred for quick trips around town or when you don't feel like waiting for the bus. The service is also available in over twenty cities across the country.
