H. N. JACOBSENS BÓKAHANDIL
Read moreA visit to this beautiful and huge building around a courtyard is a must: the oldest bookshop in the Faroes and one of the oldest shops still in operation. It was opened in 1865 by the bookbinder Hans Nicolai Jacobsen, father of Jakob Jakobsen (1864-1918), one of the most important Faroese philologists. The present shop is a labyrinth of books, of course, but also souvenirs, crockery, dolls, video games, etc.
SMS
Read moreFor a long time, the heart of Tórshavn was the harbour and the city centre. This is no longer quite true today with the SMS Shopping Center. All wood and glass built, with sloping roofs and a monumental fountain in the middle, it is organized on two floors, with a large area occupying most of the ground floor. You can find snacks for your hikes or stock up on local beer, and find a few Scandinavian brands that have never been seen in France (Nomi jewellery, Name It clothes or the florist Fípan).
BAZAR VEST
Read moreBazar Vest is a paradise for gourmets, a melting pot of spices, exotic products, colors and scents. On 11,000 m², there is a vegetable market and restaurants. The concept was created in this former boiler factory on a private initiative by Olav de Linde in 1996. Initially as a project for integration and employment, it was later developed as a commercial area with links to Africa and the Middle East (hairdresser, travel agencies, clothing, caterers, etc.). It has been a success for 25 years.
