If you have little time, we recommend that you purchase a «turnkey tower» in a Santa Cruz (Totaitu or Uimpex) or La Paz agency. It is even possible to start with Viru Viru airport, without going through Santa Cruz. If you have time or a small budget, you can travel by bus. Find out at the terminal, if you wish to go beyond Concepción (towards San Ignacio, Santa Ana or San Rafael): buses go so far only if the state of the road permits (in Santa Cruz: Flota Chiquitana). Departures every day at 6 am from the bus terminal. At each step, take a ticket for the next city). If you only have a few days, the missions of San Javier and Concepcion (2-day circuit) will give you a good idea of the missions.

LAGUNA MURURATA
Read moreEven more off the beaten tracks. Take the Ventilla trail (towards the Illimani) and pass the pass before Lambate. The first village on the descent is called Tutural Pampa. Walk to the lagoons you have seen on the descent. The good walkers will reach the last lagoon at the foot of the Mururata glacier. We saw people crying at the arrival, amazed by the fatigue or the beauty of the places crossed, which have nothing to envy Patagonia.
For these two excursions and the following trekkings, it is preferable to go through a La Paz agency (Terra Andina, Hummingbird or Andean] are renowned specialists, see the agencies section in La Paz).

El Cañón del Duende is an impressive canyon, named as a result of the rock formation at its summit strangely resembling… an elf (duende)! It is above all a pretext to enjoy the splendid arid landscapes of the region, with geological curiosities in multiple colors that evoke the good old western with Terence Hill.
