Door of the Sun, the most known of the pre-Columbian monuments of Bolivia, with frieze presenting the Tiwanaku art, Viracocha in the center

The most famous pre-Columbian monument in Bolivia! Its frieze is the most beautiful example of Tiwanaku art. It is said to be an astronomical calendar. In its center, we see Viracocha, with his two scepters, crying. Why is this? A French archaeologist, Louis Baudin, put forward a theory that the Incas and Tiwanakotas were sad people ... Wiracocha is surrounded by thirty-two sun men and sixteen condor men. Some theories even claim that they would be of extraterrestrial origin!

Beau site archéologique
Balade d'un ancien site, un peu détruit mais qui a conserver la porte de soleil qui est magnifique. Les musées apportent beaucoup à la visite. On a pu y voir une vraie momie.

Je suis allée à Tanawaku de la Paz. Je souhaitai voir la porte du soleil car cela me rappelai mes lectures de Tintin. Je dois avouer que j’ai été quelque peu déçue par le site. La porte del sol est pas très haute deux mêtres seulement et le site est assez détruit même s’il reste des monolithes.

The door of the sun is the most beautiful building of the site, many writings inca so there are seen as well as astronomical symbols of This monument is interesting because of its history and its use for the time
At certain times of the year you can see the sun right in the middle of the axis of the door to the photographs even more exceptional

It is the most beautiful by far " monument" of all the archaeological site. The shape of the door is quite unusual and the upper part indeed hints of an old astronomical calendar. On the left of Porte du Soleil another construction large as splendid is the door, representing a monkey with closed arm called " Monolito". Visit preferably weather because the rain makes the floor muddy slippery.
