One of the city's liveliest spots in the evening: a large square covered with chairs and tables where local artists come to perform. Stalls all around offer a multitude of different dishes, fresh juices, fruit, fish and seafood, sweet treats... in short, a bit of everything. One of the specialties is Thai fondue. A few stalls sell clothes and other odds and ends.

This excellent caterer offers Thai and Mediterranean cuisine on site or to take away. The dishes are prepared with seasonal products: salads, lasagne, pasta with a homemade sauce, or tartar with two salmon, Swiss fondue... The dishes of the day are at affordable prices, and very good value for money, given the quality of the chef's cuisine. Clientele of expatriates but also regular tourists. The place is welcoming, no fuss. Also petanque ground and peace and quiet guaranteed!

The Hippo Burger Bistro offers 16 varieties of burgers, each more tempting than the next (blueberry, lamb, beef, pork, chicken, fish, vegetarian...), as well as some grilled meats, pasta and salads. It's very good, considering being on a small island in Thailand. Modern setting for eating on site, and possibility to take your order to go as well. You can accompany your burger with beer, wine or a cocktail, normal you will say, we are in Koh Tao!

This chain-owned establishment stands out for several reasons. Firstly, it's located opposite the railway station, ideal for stocking up for your train journey or grabbing a bite to eat on arrival. Secondly, it offers a wide range of snacks in a modern, impeccable setting: small pizzas, croque-monsieur, pastas, cakes, pastries, good croissants... Finally, the drinks on the menu are delicious: coffees, teas and especially cha manao (iced tea with lemon), one of the favorite drinks of young Thais.

In the early evening, part of Dechanuchit Street is transformed into a night market where clothes, jewellery, handicrafts and other typical souvenirs are sold and of course many food stalls of all kinds. Many stands offer all kinds of tempting dishes at really competitive prices: khao phat (fried rice), tom yam, grilled chicken, doughnuts, sausages, fried or grilled fish... The best stand is undoubtedly the Moo Sea Food: beautiful presentation, fresh and well-cooked products... A treat!

Don't miss the Talad Nampu day market, offering local produce, clothing and more. Note that this walking street market also transforms into a night market every Saturday and Sunday evening. A series of trailers set up in the streets offer good, affordable food: noodle soups, seafood fried rice, kebabs, cut-up fruit... A great opportunity to sample local specialties!

In the absence of a tempting restaurant in the city centre, this market is really worthwhile. The stands are set up at the end of the afternoon and dismantled around 9pm. So don't be too late: at 10pm, the place is deserted. Many locals come here to shop or eat on the spot: a large choice of local specialities at unbeatable prices. Don't hesitate to taste the honey chicken cooked over a wood fire in a large terracotta jar or the ribs of pigs. Anyway, it's cheap and it's very good.

This market takes place every day, along the main avenue and near the city hospital. Another night market opens just across the street every Monday. To eat cheaply, as everywhere in Thailand, however here the difference is that this market is 99% frequented by locals, so you will find authentic (and sometimes very spicy) recipes of the region at low prices. You will have to get over the language barrier, you can for example show the table of the neighbors to indicate the desired dish.

In the heart of Thong Sala, a small, modern establishment offering great burgers "made with love and passion". On the menu: Vintage (with mushrooms), Classic, Pink Cheesy (beet and mozzarella bun), Vegan, Normandie (Paris ham and camembert)... Also salads, hummus, nachos... Beer, wine and cocktails are also available. Happy Hour every day from 4pm to 7pm.

Close to the lake, just behind the Central Samui, this small local color market has become an alternative to the Chaweng Night Market which is not as active as before. At the end of the afternoon, there are different food stalls serving Thai snacks, grilled food, fish and seafood, fruit juice stalls and some trinkets. It is quite good and it allows to eat at a lower price. Be careful about the freshness of some products in some stands, especially those offering sushi.

The prices are very attractive and the dishes are copious served with fresh produce from the market. Don't miss the XXL American breakfast, fajitas, giant Mediterranean salad, bacon and chili, the famous kebab sea chicken, Caesar wrap sandwich, pesto chicken panini, and so much more! One stone, several strokes. A visit to this covered market is already a programme in itself. Choose what you want and let yourself go. The choice is vast and within the reach of all scholarships. Crabs, prawns, fish, lobsters, cuttlefish... You can then barbeque your purchases in stands provided for this purpose for just a few baths. Finally, we lend you a folding plastic sheet, paper towels and plastic cutlery if you want to picnic on the nearby lawn with sea view.

Oh! Good bread like at home! Breakfast with croissants, pain au chocolat, coffee "du vrai" to take on the spot or to take away... This bakery changes into a simple and very good quality restaurant for lunch. With a menu of 13 homemade burgers, sandwiches, but also homemade hamburgers, pasta, pan bagnats that remind us of the French Riviera's seaside ... Anyway, don't hesitate to take what you want, it's all good!

This market is a must for small budgets, but not only! You will find stands of skewers, pad thai, empanadas, but also a covered hall with small restaurants serving Thai cuisine as well as pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, hummus, falafels... In the late afternoon the market comes alive, and it is pleasant to come and drink a cold beer by nibbling a few skewers. For healthy food aficionados, a few stands produce a wide variety of fresh juices prepared minute.

You won't be able to miss it, with its big French flag on its sign! The French Bakery has moved across the street and now has a beautiful terrace on the beach. Part bakery, part cafe and part restaurant, it offers good bread, but also pastries, burgers, paninis, sandwiches and pizzas. The sandwiches are particularly good. You can come and have a coffee, lunch, chat... And even play a game of pool if it is not monopolized by the locals, who seem to love it...
