Casa Hortensia, new name since the pandemic of a restaurant that was almost an institution in Cuenca, La Quinta. It is still a very good address to taste typical dishes. If you want to taste a good seco de pollo or a ceviche, you will not be disappointed. For dessert, the cheesecake revisited with passion fruits is simply to fall. Casa Hortensia is already a sure value, it is moreover one of the addresses that the inhabitants of Cuenca willingly recommend. Nice setting and friendly staff.

A restaurant serving Ecuadorian cuisine located in La Mariscal, where you immediately feel at home thanks to the owners' warm welcome. The room is very elegant, and a tree even grows inside, crossing the ceiling because the owners didn't have the heart to cut it down. Excellent ceviches, seco de chivo or roasted cuy will delight your taste buds. Chef Andrés personally checks with guests to make sure they've enjoyed his dishes. It's one of the best restaurants in the area, yet the prices remain reasonable.

If you're craving Indian flavors during your stay in Baños, don't hesitate: you're entering India through the front door. The welcome is, of course, as welcoming as you could wish for, and the dishes are up to the task. Chicken curries, lamb curries, fish curries, shrimp curries, everything is excellent. Beware of the spicy dishes, which are really quite spicy and should be reserved for more experienced palates. Vegetarians love this place, which offers them a vast choice.

The restaurant Carmine is located in a beautiful restored colonial house, in the middle of a beautiful garden, in the district of La Mariscal. The exterior is as charming and elegant as the interior. Carmine transports its guests to Europe for dinner. You will enjoy a delicious and tasty international cuisine of Italian inspiration, superbly prepared. Very nice wine list (nearly 200 references). The prices are of course in line with the standing of the place, the bill can be salty.

A room all in bright, lit room, three tables arranged in front of the street, a typical typical kitchen, cheap. The dishes are simple, but have the merit of being very economical and the service is fast. Wait to eat chicken or beef with rice, patacones and a salad.

This grill restaurant, located in a very lively part of town, is very popular with the locals, as the meat is delicious. You can sit on the (open) veranda or in the pretty flower garden and enjoy your often hearty meal. The Beach Comber opened in 1979 and has been a great success ever since. The room is not very special, but the open kitchen allows you to watch the grill at work. To accompany your meal, we recommend the very good house sangria served in jars. Enjoy your meal.

A grill restaurant as we like them and we are not mistaken, we are not the only ones. You will find many regulars here, often large tables, who know that the meat is excellent. You can eat on the terrace or in a large room decorated with paintings, but not very warm. You will be served meat - steak, sausages, chunchullo (Chinchulines), beef liver and heart, etc. - accompanied by sautéed potatoes, meatballs, and a variety of other dishes. - served with fried potatoes, salad and fries. The hotel's restaurant serves good and unusual food. You can choose from a pasta salad, eggplant and cheese with tomato sauce, calamari a la romana, grilled prawns and Galician dry meat. A tempting selection of sandwiches with home-made bread. Some desserts and wine list. The setting is also very pleasant: wooden tables spaced out in a room, bright during the day and dimmed in the evening, decorated in a refined bohemian style. You feel good here, you come back.

This small restaurant with a baba-cool look serves delicious breakfasts prepared with natural products: cereals, fruit salad, coffee, home bread, etc. To start the day! On the map, good vegetarian dishes, cakes (cakes, moelleux…) if you have a little sweet after a day of playa… Inside, in a cosy but somewhat dark room, or around a terrace on the street side.

Established in 2004, strategically located at the beginning of Calle de las Luces, Marea is a good restaurant set up under a palm tree hut where the pizzas are cooked over a wood fire. On the menu, about fifteen pizzas, homemade pasta and desserts (apple crisp and chocolate brownie with ice cream). Friendly and quiet setting. At the bar, there is a wide choice of local drinks and cocktails and above all, a special feature: at Marea, it's happy hour all the time! And since January 2020, Marea is also in Olon.

A trendy place with Tahitian decor and Jamaican music, specializing in seafood where Montañita surfers meet. High wooden tables, a totem pole and surfboards at the entrance set the tone. This charming little restaurant, decorated with care, offers a variety of pleasures, since it serves Colombian specialties. The patacon, this accompaniment of crushed and fried plantains is in the spotlight. The dishes are also prepared with seafood, but somewhat different from what you find in other establishments (you will find here the Colombian version of patacones). The owners themselves are from Cali, Colombia, and will make you love their food. Good choice of cocktails too.

The Barceló Colón Hotel has two restaurants and a bar. The Café Colón offers an all-you-can-eat buffet in the morning, at lunchtime or in the evening, with a wide range of salads, hot dishes, fruit and desserts in a pleasant restaurant room with an outdoor terrace. The Sushi bar offers quality Japanese dishes (open from Wednesday to Sunday, mainly in the evening). There is also a poolside bar where you can enjoy a quick bite to eat.

The owner also offers a wide range of cocktails and beers, to be consumed in moderation of course... Freedom is a place where football has its place and on match days, people gather here to watch the best games, everyone supporting their team in a good mood and without any animosity.

Below, this cosy restaurant serves delicious food. The owner concocts good dishes, and we recommend the pizzas or the lasagne (also vegetarian), accompanied by garlic bread. The service is a bit slow, but there is time... Take the opportunity to order a good natural fruit juice, made on demand. The decoration could use some freshening up, but the dishes served make up for it! If you prefer to stay at your hotel, don't hesitate to have it delivered, Blue Rose has been offering this service since 2020.

In a simple yet authentic setting, you'll eat a good almuerzo of traditional dishes for a modest sum. The food is unsurprising (we tried the chicken with coke and the trout on a plank), but quite decent. The fruit and vegetables are local and often organic, like the excellent arbol tomatoes we tried in syrup - a real treat! The restaurant of this superb luxury hotel serves good modern seafood dishes in a beautiful and relaxing setting. Delicious ceviche and perfectly cooked tuna. You can also taste very good sancochos del mar (typical Ecuadorian dishes based on fish and yucca). Note a grill carved in the lava to give an authentic side to the delicious grills that are prepared there and accompanied by organic vegetables from the hacienda. The chic restaurant of the Hotel Continental serves tasty gourmet dishes based on modern and fusion cuisine. It is the meeting place for the city's wealthy classes, businessmen and politicians. The plates are beautifully laid out and the taste buds are in for a treat. Formal setting. The other restaurant of the hotel, La Canoa, serves a more typical Ecuadorian cuisine, also of very good quality. The Continental Hotel is closed until October 2021, let's bet that the restaurants will outdo themselves in the coming months to find their customers.

In a cosy and pleasant atmosphere, one can enjoy a variety of typical Swiss specialties, including fondues and raclettes. This is quite surprising in such a hot region, but many Guayaquileños come here for a different experience in a nice place.

Le Gourmet, a restaurant located in the same hotel, offers French gastronomy in an elegant and refined setting. Wide selection of dishes. For those who are homesick. Tuesday to Friday from 12pm to 3pm and from 7pm to midnight and Saturday from 7pm to midnight.

In the modern part of the city, Romolo e Remo has become over the years one of Quito's favorite addresses for Italian cuisine. The restaurant is run by an Italian chef who serves simple but deliciously prepared dishes: pasta, salads, pizzas, focaccia... You can come for lunch or dinner with friends, the welcome is pleasant and the service fast. Special mention for the famous saltimbocca alla romana, particularly tasty. A very chic place, a refined lounge decor in dark tones in the purest Relais & Châteaux style. Zazu is a unique place in Quito. The chef's cuisine is modern, creative and fragrant, and surprises the palate. Seafood takes pride of place, and we particularly recommend the duck confit with gnocchi or the famous cuy, a traditional guinea pig. Ceviches, prepared "Peruvian-style", are again rich in a variety of flavors. Tuna and foie gras ceviches are sure to arouse the curiosity of gourmets.

Installed on the terrace of the Angermayer waterfront Inn, on the other side of the port, the Isla Grill is an institution in Santa Cruz. Grilled meat (steak) and fish, a la plancha, this is what you eat in this warm restaurant. The view of the local boats and the port of Santa Cruz is breathtaking. Burgers, pizzas and salads are also on the menu, but you'd better treat yourself to the specialities of the house. The cooking is perfectly mastered and the service warm. We recommend the lobster: delicious!

This bar-restaurant serves a more original cuisine than its neighbors. The menu mixes Peruvian, Argentinean and Ecuadorian flavours for a very satisfying result. The dishes are flavoured and some are reserved for vegetarians. To note, very good burgers also. We sometimes meet here to have a drink with friends. La Facha is one of those places where you think 100% about surfing, ideal to meet other aficionados of this sport if you practice it. The hotel is also nice and the surf shop is well stocked.

The culinary influences of this establishment are diverse (German, Mexican, Italian, etc.), just like the clientele. A nicely decorated café paying tribute to all the countries of the world, where you can enjoy good burgers, nachos, onion fritters, nuggets, as well as pancakes and eggs for breakfast... Cocktails and a good selection of beers. Many expats from Vilcabamba meet here at the end of the day for a drink and to catch up on the latest gossip. On match days, the TV is always on!

This restaurant offers a traditional cuisine, including cuy, the famous roasted guinea pig that Ecuadorians love. The clientele is mostly composed of tourist groups passing through the area, so avoid it if you are looking for authenticity, although since the pandemic the restaurant has turned towards the local market by expanding its menu with more common dishes. A daily menu completes the offer and allows you to have lunch at a lower cost in a pleasant atmosphere that is conducive to meetings. Folk music on weekends.

A restful place where you can read a book, sit and sip a drink accompanied by a pastry (carrot cake or muffin, for example), and this for hours. To test: the good organic Intag coffee produced in the region, speciality of this association of artisanal producers of fair trade organic coffee from the Intag valley. Cocktails and wines are also available. Book exchange on site. A very nice stop where you can also buy an excellent roasted coffee and even green coffee if you feel like roasting it yourself.

Rayuela is without a doubt THE trendy restaurant of the city where local families meet. It was the first to call itself a restobar, a kind of bistro restaurant of today. Music, modern decor, and varied and quality dishes. The meat is tasty. We like, among other things, the lomo a la pimienta, the pechuga de pollo and the (large) organic salads. If you like pork, the chuleta en salsa maracuya (pork chop with passion fruit sauce) should make you happy. The staff is friendly. A safe bet!

An original and elaborate menu that makes your mouth water. We don't know what to choose... In addition to being beautifully prepared, each dish is tasty, fragrant, and sometimes surprisingly new. The fish is unquestionably fresh. We recommend the tuna(atún) à la parilla. The red meats are imported from the United States, an excellent Angus. If you are hungry, the Picaña d'Angus importado (grilled beef) should satisfy you... A very good address and a good value for money.

Carmita is a must in town. You can enjoy Ecuadorian-style ceviche, shrimp with garlic or a la plancha, calamari, octopus, fish of the day... Not to mention beef and chicken prepared according to local recipes. Lots of choice on the menu. The prices are a little higher than in other restaurants, but the quality is there and the portions are generous. The atmosphere is relaxed, but the place is a bit noisy at times... We are in the heart of the most animated sector of the village, every medal has its reverse.

An original address where you can enjoy a subtle, almost gastronomic cuisine. Shrimps in tartar sauce, parmesancorvina with spinach, potatoes, courgettes and tomato sauce are just some of the tasty dishes prepared by Big Ralph, the chef and owner of the place. Reminiscent of its origins, the fish of the day with breadcrumbs is a true British-style fish and chips. And don't forget the grilled chicken and salads that are part of the menu. Recommended!

The restaurant of this hostel managed by Martin and Maye Baldovino is a good surprise. Not only does the place have a beautiful view of the port of Bahia, but the food is very satisfying. On the menu, typical dishes, fish and seafood, fresh and well seasoned. Simple and efficient. At the time of our visit in May 2021, the facilities were closed, but let's bet that they will reopen very quickly because the place is very appreciated by the locals as well as the tourists, a buyer should be quickly interested...

This trattoria is as popular with Guayaquilenos as it is with visiting tourists. For almost 35 years, in a singular setting, both friendly and elegant, people have been flocking here to enjoy spaghetti, gnocchi, minestrone, ravioli, fettuccine, risotto(al funghi, for example). Piccolo Mondo is now considered by many to be one of the 10 best Italian restaurants in the city. Everything is quite good overall, with the added bonus of an original setting that will delight fans of kitsch. To be discovered.

This Italian restaurant-pizzeria moved into this new location in 2019 and offers excellent Italian food, mostly prepared over a wood fire. The pizza is hands down the best in all of Ecuador! The meat is also very good, and the icing on the cake is a delicious homemade tiramisu waiting for you to end this beautiful culinary experience that we highly recommend. The wine list is not to be outdone and you can accompany your meal with a good quality Italian or Chilean red wine. A must in Baños.

A fine address in the heart of the Arzobispal patio. Here you can devour fine cuts of meat at reasonable prices. If you prefer seafood, you'll find top-quality grilled prawns. Don't forget to accompany them with a good, slightly spicy chimichurri sauce - it's a real delight. More airy than its upstairs neighbors, Juan Fogonero on the first floor is a great place to dine in the historic center, especially as the few restaurants open in the evening in this area are located here.

Not to be missed in Quito! This small family cafeteria is very well run by charming owners. The place which exists since 1965 serves very good typical dishes. We advise you the seco de chivo. For breakfast, Fabiolita offers various very healthy options. Most of the products used here are organic and often harvested by the employees of the house. You can enjoy the quality of the products in a very simple way. Moreover, from the terrace the view on the Plaza Grande is sublime. Highly recommended!

El Mariachi Taco Factory is a good Mexican restaurant located in the Mariscal around the famous Foch square. Here, you can eat very good Mexican specialties: tacos, tortillas, guacamole, fajitas... there is something for everyone (generous portions). The meat is also very good. It's a good place to start the evening, right in the center of the Quito nightlife. Many Quiteños meet here on football match nights, in a more intimate atmosphere than on the plaza Foch. The staff is very friendly.

Perfect place to enjoy very good pizzas in a typical Italian setting: wood-fired pizzas, red and white checkered tables, warm welcome, everything is there. On match nights, the TV is on and you come with your family or friends to watch it. The pizzas are as good and almost as big as in Italy! Don't hesitate to have it delivered if you want to stay at your hotel, it has become common since the pandemic and the deliveries are very fast, no need to reheat your pizza when you arrive!

Welcome to Fabiano's, opened since 2011 and highly recommended by locals, it is a great place to eat delicious Italian pizza at low prices and in a relaxed and family atmosphere. Fabiano has opened two other locations in Cuenca. One in the Zona Rosa and the other in the Challuabamba neighborhood, a residential area of the city. All three places have a good atmosphere and above all, produce very good pizzas and pasta dishes. If you prefer to dine at your hotel, ask for a delivery, it is fast and free.

In the heart of Riobamba, César Oña, a native of the country who studied abroad and stayed with a chef, has opened an apparently unpretentious bar-cafeteria on the main avenue, Daniel Leon Borja. The food here is Ecuadorian, even "Riobambenian" quality, prepared with fresh local products. Ask for an empanada de morocho and you will be taken for a local! They also serve good chicken wings with chips. The service is friendly, the dishes are of good quality. Perfect place for a quick break and not very expensive.

Looking for Mexican food in the middle of volcanoes? Guadalajara Grill is without doubt the best Mexican restaurant in town. It's often very quiet, as it's set back from the busy streets of Latacunga. The owners of Guadalajara grill (they're Mexican) are charming and serve delicious home-cooked food. On the menu: Tacos, Burritos, Enchiladas, Chimichangas, Fajitas, Sopas, Tostadas, Huevos Rancheros, Nachos and many other delights. All for a very reasonable price. If you want to stay at your hotel, delivery is fast.

La Taberna is a Tex-Mex restaurant that has been open for about ten years. Run by a young Ecuadorian who speaks French (he lived in Paris for several years). Warm welcome and good small cooked dishes. We recommend the hamburgers! For more intimacy, go upstairs. One of the favorite places of travelers in the evening. Note that the parchita cheesecake, a passion fruit cheesecake is homemade and particularly tasty. Since the pandemic, it is possible to have it delivered to your hotel in less than 30 minutes.

There is a wide choice for lunch or dinner in Machala, but we have selected the Waikiki restaurant which is a bit more expensive than the others, but really worth it. Its terrace under a straw roof is the perfect place to enjoy a good dinner. The courbine au gratin with crab sauce is excellent as are all the dishes we tried. The Waikiki's slogan being "the authentic flavour of our coast", one could think that only seafood is served, but don't be mistaken, the menu is very complete. A favorite.

Located on the first floor of a pretty colonial house, we recommend this restaurant mainly for the view it offers of the Plaza de los Ponchos from the balcony. It serves hearty breakfasts and decent local cuisine at low prices. You can also enjoy a very good canelazo, the traditional hot drink made with spices and often with added alcohol. As its name suggests, this restaurant has a lovely little terrace from which you can watch the artisans setting up or getting busy on market days.

Sergio Guevara, the chef of this small, unpretentious Italian restaurant with a cosy atmosphere, opened in 1996, prepares delicious food with fresh, local products. He welcomes you in a pleasant house, a little away from the town centre, at the beginning of the road that leads to Puyo. You will be able to taste his dishes on the terrace as well as inside and you will not be disappointed. Pizzas, pasta, lasagne, meat and fish, everything is excellent and prepared with good quality products. We highly recommend this establishment.

If you're in the mood for a good Italian meal, look no further than La Briciola, where you'll feel like you're in Italy from the moment you walk in. The staff are professional and friendly, and the tables are well spaced. We recommend the wood-fired pizzas or the lasagne baked in the pizza oven, which are excellent! If you're looking for a more gourmet meal, try the rabbit with peppers, for example, after a good plate of fresh pasta. Agnolotti, tortellini and ravioli are homemade with quality local ingredients. A good choice.
