The Vienna Mozart Orchestra is made up of some thirty excellent musicians, and performs in the halls of the Musikverein (Golden Hall and Brahms Hall), one of the world's top classical music venues for its exceptional acoustics, as well as in the superb Vienna Opera House, located on the Opernring. In operation for several decades, it performs the major works of Mozart and Strauss. The musicians are dressed in period costumes. Unusual. LEO, the "Last Merry Opera Theatre", is a vintage cabaret with a sweet, decadent Viennese fetish. Its small troupe performs operas whose arias are respected, but the other passages are mocked. Burlesque interpretations of the classics, crazy shows of Viennese songs where the singers dress in drag, that's what this den of Viennese intellectuals offers, enjoying the show while sitting at the table with a glass of wine.

The Haus des Wiener Musikvereins, opened in 1870, is considered by many music lovers and musicians to be the best concert hall in the world for its acoustics. Bach and Beethoven are regularly performed here. But since the concerts of the prestigious Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (www.wienerphilharmoniker.at) are the most popular in the city, you need to book well in advance to attend. Tickets are sometimes resold on the spot by buyers who are forced to cancel their evening at the last minute.

Since 1912, this beautiful, partly Art Nouveau building has housed three main halls: the Schubert-Saal, the Mozart-Saal and the Grosser Saal, the largest as its name suggests. Its musical palette is not limited to classical music, but covers the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque, as well as jazz and world music, and even contemporary progressive sounds. The musicians of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra perform there in prestigious concerts. The program takes place all year round, including in summer.

The Piaristenkeller's musical (and culinary) programme is centred around the most famous representative of Viennese classical music. Quality concerts with renowned orchestras in the Piaristenkirche, a magnificent baroque church. In the vaulted cellars of the restaurant, Mozart's music (solo musician or string quartet) during the meal. We taste the dinner that Mozart would have had during one of his visits to the Piaristenkeller! At the end of the evening, head to the Hut- und Weinmuseum for a glass of Zauberflöte (Magic Flute).

An institution in Bregenz. The most recent structure was opened in 1999 and is a busy venue during the tourist season, especially for the annual Bregenz Festival (www.bregenzerfestspiele.com). The giant open-air stage on the lakefront can accommodate up to 6,000 people, and a covered wing can be used indoors in case of bad weather. It is the largest lake stage in the world.

Founded in 1990 by pianist and conductor Paul Moser and his wife Sylvia, this chamber orchestra performs classical composers with a formation of 10 to 40 musicians in period costumes. Top of the bill: Mozart and Strauss. For the record, the WRO was Austria's official representative for the bicentenary of Mozart's death in 1991. In the purest Viennese tradition, the orchestra performs in the capital's most beautiful palaces.

Every day, Mozart comes to life at the Salzburg Residence, a venue steeped in history since it was here that the maestro first played for the archbishop. Two concerts take place at 3pm and 5pm. The first, entitled Residenzconzerte, is played by a soloist on a reproduction of a harpsichord from 1769. The musician obviously gives pride of place to Mozart, and adds a few Baroque works to his repertoire. The second, Mozart Violinsonaten, is played as a duo by a violinist and a pianist, who skilfully bring his most beautiful sonatas to life.

Shows to delight young and old. In Vienna, even the puppets sing opera! This beautiful puppet theater offers shows of varying length, but if you have the time, don't hesitate to book a ticket for Mozart's The Magic Flute (an abridged version for children). The show, which lasts 2 hours 20 minutes (adults), is fascinating. The troupe's reputation is international, and they sometimes go on tour. Open-air shows in summer.

It is a second hall of the Theater an der Wien. The wide range of works in the Kammeroper's repertoire complements its programming and provides another perspective on the classical operatic world. The JET ensemble, led by young professional musicians, breathes new life into this traditional genre, which sometimes needs a little dusting off. The Kammeroper occupies a small establishment tucked away at the end of a cul-de-sac near Schwedenplatz. And you'll discover contemporary versions of opera and operetta.

It is THE Viennese reference in terms of jazzy concerts and a really nice and warm atmosphere. Here, concerts and high-flying jazz improvisations take place, attracting jazz lovers from far and wide to attend new evenings each time in a pretty, round hall with exceptional acoustics. The address has thus become a cosy and friendly meeting point for jazz lovers. The programming of jazz or world artists, of international or local renown, is always of quality.

Broadcast many French films.

One of Vienna's cult halls for the seventh art. It attracts by its sharp programming the informed cinephiles around a cinema d'auteur most often engaged, even militant. The Stadtkino, which screens its films in their original version, regularly shows French films or films by French-speaking directors, those of the Dardenne brothers for example. It's an opportunity to enjoy a Viennese cinema without language barriers. This cinema schedules night-time screenings at weekends and Sunday matinees.

Festivals of liturgical music often take place, especially in the spring. Concerts open to the public, usually take place on Sunday morning. Non-religious concerts (especially organ) are also common, this time paid.

Opened in 1972, it's Vienna's oldest jazz club still in operation! It boasts a solid reputation and a loyal clientele, as well as regular musicians. It was this pioneering work that gave birth to the current jazz scene in Vienne. This jazz club continues to invite Austrian and international jazz stars to the stage. You'll appreciate its warm atmosphere and the quality of its concerts. The decor is splendid: vaulted ceilings, wood and exposed stone. If you're feeling a little hungry, there's plenty of food on the premises.
