Practical information : Going out Austria
Timetable
Happy hours are commonplace in cities and even in the countryside. Since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, discotheques and nightclubs have gradually reopened, without having returned to their original opening hours. It's rare to find a jazz club or nightclub open all night! Closing around 2 or 3 a.m., or even 4 a.m., is more common. Opening times have been brought forward accordingly, often as early as 8pm.
Budget & Tips
In the city at night, thanks to the sausage stands, you can eat for just a few euros. Don't forget to tip if you take a cab in the middle of the night. Some nightclubs still offer free entry for girls on Thursdays.
To be booked
If you want to spend the evening in a famous bar, especially one of the city's panoramic bars or one of the bars where DJs and live bands are the most famous, make sure you reserve a table, otherwise you'll end up with nothing!
Night transport
In the city, public transport, streetcars and buses run from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. or midnight. They are then replaced by a few night buses. In Vienna, the metro runs all night on Friday and Saturday, the rest of the time stopping at midnight or 0:30. You can call a cab or hail one on the street. Uber also works.
Age restrictions
To enter a nightclub, you'll be asked to show proof of age.
What's very local
Austrians usually dress to go out.
Smokers
Cigarette smoking is strictly forbidden in nightclubs, jazz clubs, concert halls, theaters and cinemas. Electronic cigarettes are likewise prohibited.
