Budget & Tips
Winter. Andorra now boasts several ski areas, Grandvalira, Pal-Arinsal and Ordino-Arcalís, with a total of 300 km of pistes. The services are comprehensive: funiculars, gondolas, ski lifts, chairlifts, ski schools, artificial snow cannons... not to mention two facilities for snowboard enthusiasts: Freeride Area and Snow Park. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, Andorra's ski areas offer a thousand other ways to have fun on the snow. For leisurely strolls, choose snowshoeing, mushing (dog-drawn sleighs) or skibiking.
Summertime. When the white mantle melts, Andorra unveils lush green landscapes where visitors can indulge in a whole range of summer activities. Leisure activities are geared towards young people and families: walking, cycling, horse-riding, climbing and canyoning.
What's very local
The National Tourist Office, in collaboration with parish tourist offices, has recently set up a network of themed walks for younger visitors, called Senderos magicos Macarulla ("Macarulla, little magic paths"). All you have to do is go to the tourist office where you'll find a themed trail, pick up the booklet (in French) and follow the directions. For example, the "La forêt des elfes" (La Massana) trail lets you explore the fantastic world of these mythical beings who live in the Principality's forests. The "Where are the mushrooms?" route (Canillo) is a mushroom hunt in the truest sense of the word! "La potion de la sorcière Quela" (Escaldes-Engordany) gives an insight into the legends and beliefs linked to witches in the country. "Traces et empreintes" (Encamp) is an itinerary that takes you into the habitat of seven of the most characteristic animals of the Andorran mountains and helps you recognize their tracks. To be booked
If you'd like to take part in activities requiring special logistics (mountain or horse-riding outings, for example) or even mount your own expedition in conjunction with professionals, you'll need to plan ahead... and accept that plans may change at the last minute, as the weather can sometimes throw a few obstacles in your path.
