Open - from 19h30 to 01h00

Fado em Si is housed in a 17th-century palace that once belonged to the Lords of Murça (Alentejo). Part of the hall's walls are built into Lisbon's Roman walls, whose irregular stonework ensures high acoustic quality. Emerging Fado greats and established artists follow one another to bring you the very best of Fado. In the kitchen, you'll enjoy traditional gastronomy. An ideal setting for a wonderful evening in touch with Portuguese traditions.

PÁTEO DE ALFAMA

Concert halls €€

In the heart of Alfama, this house of folklore and fado is housed in a noble medieval house (former palace of the Counts of Murça). Since 2008, it has been offering a different approach, combining Fado singing and music with traditional costumed dance scenes. In a beautiful hall, with floor and real stage: a young singer, a reconstruction of a 19th-century scene, experienced singers and dances from national folklore (Nazaré, Coimbra, Ribatejo, Linhares da Beira...). The artists bring authentic tableaux to life.

QUIOSQUE PORTAS DO SOL

Bar and caf €€

Without doubt one of the most beautiful esplanades in Lisbon! A cosmopolitan place, a clientele mixing travellers and Lisboetes as well as many tables offering a breathtaking view of the Tagus and the rooftops of Alfama. You can enjoy petiscos (tapas), sandwiches, and salads at any time of the day, you can also simply come and have a drink and laze in the middle of the excitement. The prices are higher than elsewhere, the view has a cost, the service is, unfortunately, rather uneven, but it doesn't matter. To be tested at the end of the day over a beer.

CAFÉ LUSO

You will certainly hear about Café Luso if you are looking for a fado restaurant. Inaugurated in 1927, on the site of an old palace, it is one of the oldest restaurants on the theme of Lisboa. His reputation makes him a mecca of fado: what could be more normal, it is here that Amália began her career. The space is impressive with its arcades and stone walls. In its large vaulted hall, a fado show is given throughout the evening, during which exclusive artists of the house sing in an intimate atmosphere.

PARK

Very little signage for this bar with a 500 m2 terrace and a 180° view. To get there, you really have to go into the parking lot and take the elevator to the top. When you get to the bar, it's really quite a surprise! Its hard part, its decoration and its vegetation evoke a little the Tropics. Planted shrubs and light woodwork give the space a suspended garden feel. A little Mediterranean cuisine and some snacks (homemade gourmet hamburgers) to satisfy your appetite and cocktails on the esplanade to enjoy.

FERROVIARIO

Club

A little further past the Santa Apolonia station you will find this famous bar/club. With one of the most beautiful views in Lisbon, the establishment created in 1961 reopened in 2010 as a bar-restaurant with live music. Two independent spaces: a large terrace with an open-air bar and a concert and theater room. The stage allows to put forward new local artists of different universes: music, painting, art... More than an event space, it is also a very nice place of conviviality. See you there!

PENSÃO AMOR

This former "brothel", once frequented by local prostitutes and visiting foreign sailors, retains something of its sultry cabaret atmosphere. On the program: cultural events, improbable DJ nights in its dance hall, or just chatting. Chapel-Sixtine-style ceilings, pedestal tables and antique armchairs give the "Pension Amour " plenty of charm and sensuality. You can then go and sleep just upstairs in their Madam's Lodge hotel, and stay in an oriental ambiance.

FADO NA BAIXA

Concert halls
4.8/5
25 reviews

Fado is in the DNA of the Portuguese identity. In a small intimate room, you can appreciate all the facets and discover its origins. Every day, musicians and singers revisit the essence and history of this art form, which has been included in UNESCO's intangible heritage list since 2011. The show is interspersed with short documentary excerpts translated by audioguide. An hour of escape that will allow you to better understand the moods of a people who express with the fado the lack of country and roots, in a word: the saudade.

An establishment under the São Luís theatre and above the São Carlos theatre, which has a pretty vaulted room full of charm and a small terrace. You can take the time to daydream in good company or even to read thanks to a pile of international magazines at your disposal. A slate at the entrance offers a dish of the day that will always be cheaper than an à la carte dish. At certain times of the year, free quality concerts (jazz cycle: Monday and Friday) entertain a cosmopolitan and well-educated clientele.

In a beautiful old building near Sé, the guitarist, composer and fado performer Mario Pacheco (former companion of the diva Amália Rodrigues) has created a rather chic restaurant-bar. We're a long way from the most casual haunts in Alfama. The superb vaults now house one of the best places for bourgeois fado, the headquarters of famous fadists of all ages. Beautiful room of style well arranged. We let ourselves be transported to the sound of the guitar in another era. For a meal-show or to have a drink and listen to Fado.

Right in the heart of the historical area of Loulé, this small bar is considered one of the best spots to meet up in the evening with friends. We will opt for original tapas (stuffed mushrooms, octopus, trilogy of burgers), a house specialty, to be shared over a glass of wine or beer in the pretty red brick vaulted room. The house regularly organizes intimate ao vivo concerts and hosts jazz or electro-pop bands and musicians and stand-up comedy. Due to its small size, reservation is strongly recommended.

CASA DE LINHARES

Cabaret and Revue

This is a well-known and rather luxurious establishment for the neighbourhood. In a large medieval vaulted room (former palace of the Counts of Linhares) lit by candlelight, every evening from 9:15 pm, three high-flying fadists follow one another, among a mainly foreign clientele. Exceptional singers have been there, such as Ana Moura, Celeste Rodrigues (Amália Rodrigues' sister) or the young Vânia Duarte. In the kitchen, Portuguese or international dishes are prepared: a choice of meats and fish cooked with refinement.
