This cultural tour of the capital, which lasts about 2 hours and 15 minutes, starts from the beautiful café opened by Claire and Christian in the center of Port Mathurin. Since it all started here, on the spot where the city was later built, this walking tour is one of the best introductions to the country. Like Rodrigues Friendly's other immersive and unique tours (on a day trip), the walk is brilliantly led by Christian who knows how to bring to life every single building and how to make every single reference to the past exciting. Anecdotes and explanations abound throughout the fifteen stops in the alleys of the small pocket capital, built on the water and no bigger than its 2 ^km2. Christian's words bring back to life the men and events that have marked and shaped the destiny of the island. It was in 1691 that François Leguat established the French colony on the banks of a river. Christian recounts the influence of Father Gandy, that of the Creole house "Centre Carrefour" built in 1872 by the Church, the importance of the post office where letters were delivered by auction, the role of the Residence that adorns an object that we all regularly carry in our pockets, the incredible history of the cannon that comes from Mesopotamia or the Rodriguan flag with its nine symbols... and so many other "little stories" that, as the brochure says, "take us far away. Like all the guided electric mountain bike rides organized by DunienZîl, a small Mauritian family company of enthusiasts, the Grand Port ride allows an immersion in the history of Mauritius (here that of the Dutch, the first settlers of the island) and a privileged meeting with craftsmen of the eastern region: basket makers from the active workshop of the village, and also Pop, one of the last marine carpenters of the island. At the northern entrance to the city, an industrial building conceals one of the capital's best-kept secrets: the Kuanfu Tea Art Center. In a huge room without an opening partitioned into several tasting areas, the ritual of the tea ceremony is performed in the purest Chinese tradition. A clear sign, the Sino-Mauritians are there to evaluate the different qualities of the leaves in the repetitive and heady notes of traditional Chinese music, a time of pause in a very different place.

The experiment begins in the upper floors of the building where the famous Kuanfu Tea completes its long and slow 365-day fermentation process using the British K26 technique consisting of 21 baking phases. This method reduces the caffeine level to less than 0.017%, increases the polyphenol level to more than 32% at the same time and gives full identity to this unique ripe black tea with multiple virtues, we are told. A guide leads the tour and explains the different manufacturing processes: from leaf collection to alternative hot and cold fermentations in machines and bags, including drying on sieves, sorting, baking... Then comes the time of tasting, preceded by the time of preparation, which, as usual, is carried out in several stages, patiently explained and visually completed by a hostess: choice of service (a small teapot with tiny cups), dosage of the tea (5 grams), heating the water to 90 °C. Three infusions are then made in order to gradually lower the heat of the water in the cups and to make the taste of the tea more homogeneous. And the hostess to present and detail the multiple qualities of this tea which improves the digestive system, reinforces sleep, has an antioxidant action... and whose powder can be used as a skin mask. According to Mauristea, the company behind the Kuanfu Tea, Mauritian lands would have excellent conditions for high quality tea production. To date, Kuanfu Tea has luxury retail outlets all over the island. The tea ceremony is systematically offered there. The prices of the packages are much higher than those of other Mauritian teas and the packaging is generally more neat.

You can also visit the other Kuanfu tea factory in Dubreuil, in the centre of the island: a vast 10,000 ^m2 complex, whose tea room is said to be the largest in the world today.

The helipad is located on the domain of Lavilleon which is accessed via the entrance of the Terres de 7 Couleurs. Its proximity to the site of Le Morne (to the south-west) makes it possible to reach the famous underwater waterfall (this amazing optical illusion visible from the sky alone) in a few minutes, like an enchanted interlude during a day of visit in the South for example.
