Built in 1875 by Viennese architects, this beautiful building was ravaged by fire in 1920. The wings remain intact, while the facade, overlooking Piața Victoriei, has been rebuilt in neo-Byzantine style. It is home to four cultural institutions: the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre, the German and Magyar National Theatres and the Opera House. The latter is one of the best in the country.
