The waiters can sometimes be overwhelmed, but the restaurant is very clean and offers a very nice setting. The service is neat and the staff pleasant.

This prestigious place brews as many trendy Egyptians as foreigners in residence in Cairo. In the lounge as well as in the restaurant, the cuisine is tasty and neat. Bathed in a delicate play of lights, the decor is superb and the atmosphere is always very pleasant. Beautiful cocktail menu and a cigar cellar for the amateurs. It is a very good address so it is better to book at the weekend.

Located in a dark alleyway between Talaat Harb Street and Kasr El Nil, Estoril is the epitome of the cool, old school bar in the city centre. You don't really go to this place to eat good food, but to immerse yourself in a city and its people, the researchers, writers and artists, young and old, who build and deconstruct the history of this beautiful country. The place is very crowded, and often very smoky. The place offers a greater choice of alcohol. A little more expensive than elsewhere, but it's worth it.

Two addresses in refreshing Al-Azhar Park. Studio Misr is located on top of a hill with a breathtaking view of the citadel and minarets of the Islamic city. To be recommended: "citadel" grills. In the evening, it's best to make a reservation. The second, Lakeside, located on the banks of an artificial lake, gives a panoramic view of the Ayyubid wall of the old city. Ideal to take a fresh chicha and oriental mezze, and only that: the rest is very mediocre. No alcohol served.

One of Cairo's most pleasant (and touristy!) eateries, with its original wood-panelled decor. It is located at the entrance to the eponymous street of one of the feminists who left her mark on her country's history, Hoda Sha'raoui. The atmosphere is reminiscent of Egypt in the 1920s. The tables are arranged lengthways, in a wide room with a very high ceiling. It's the ideal place to try the classics of Egyptian cuisine: pigeon specialties, kebab, molokheya and grilled fish, all at reasonable prices. The waiters are very friendly.

A restaurant-bar in the heart of downtown, cut off from the hustle and bustle by an inner courtyard at the end of a small passageway of the same name. A meeting place for artists, journalists and business people. Good ventilation for non-smokers. In summer, its second air-conditioned room, with its red and black tones, offers a small island of coolness. Excellent Lebanese and Egyptian mezze dishes, ideal for aperitifs and light snacks. Bigger appetites will also find quality cuisine with meat specialties, stuffed pigeon and seafood.

Restaurant in the basement, all in finely carved woodwork where you feel like you are in a palace. Good Lebanese address in Cairo where the mezze round is intoxicating (the tray on the table turns so that no guest is harmed!). Don't hesitate to take the kebbah neyah, raw minced meat mixed with olive oil and garlic. Eggplant with pomegranate ('Romanesque' in Arabic) is divine. Sprinkle it with a little arak, and finish with a chicha. In the evenings and on weekends, it is best to book if you are more than two people.

A smart restaurant where you can eat very well, this is a good address.

One of the many English restaurants in Luxor, where you can eat very well. Debby, the landlady's got her eye on everything. What's on the plate, but also on the reception of the customers, which she does herself, the staff, the menu... The dishes are of a very good quality, prepared with fresh products. The chicken curry is very good and the lemon pie is delicious. The restaurant is located close to the Hotel Steingenberger. Everybody knows, just give the name of the restaurant to the taxi driver. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.

Very nice place in the center of the mall, First Mall. You will find the best French pastries of Cairo orchestrated by the pastry chef Benoît Loncle. The best bread as well, some French people in need of baguette or boule de campagne cross the city to stock up. Excellent cuisine also with some signature dishes: Fayoum duck with orange, seafood fricassee and a competition croque Madame! For fine gourmets and for those nostalgic for French cuisine.

Andréa is an oasis of freshness, with its flower-filled arbors giving the terrace a charm all of its own. The open-air barbecue grills large skewers of quail and chicken, while next door, in the stone oven, irresistible homemade bread is baked. The food is good, the meat tasty and the mezze perfectly cooked, all at an attractive price. If you're a vegetarian, don't bother, or come for the evening entertainment with live musicians and dancers. Smiling welcome and family atmosphere.

Zamalek's chic "delicatessen" offers excellent pizzas (with a really fine dough almost like in Italy!), salads and a delicious chocolate cake. You can eat on the spot, around a few rare tables. Friendly atmosphere. Take away permanently. One could also buy here some cold cuts (pork) until the population took the animal in the face! The best pizza is the simplest, the Margarita. You don't need anything else to continue your visits in joy and good mood. To discover.

Since 1957, this address has been the Alexandrian - indeed, the national - reference for foul! The whole of society flocks here, including the Queen of Spain. Ask, of course, for the "foul eskandrani" (Alexandrian foul), accompanied by a variety of mezze. You'll really get your money's worth, and the impression of a local experience, in a warm and typical atmosphere. Falafel and hummus are also excellent. If you're in a hurry, buy sandwiches on the run - they come in all shapes and sizes.

In the heart of the capital, Naguib Mahfouz is an oasis amidst the chaos of the great souk of Khan El Khalili, which is always very lively and crowded. The place includes a café section, where drinks and shishas are served, and a restaurant section where classic oriental dishes are offered. The interiors are in keeping with the special flavour of Khan El Khalili, and the spirit of the writers who frequented this café can still be felt. The service is excellent and the choice of food and drinks is above average.

The restaurant belongs to Four Season's at Nile Plaza. It offers various Lebanese and Mediterranean specialties. But also salads, hummus, lamb cooked on wood fire, without forgetting desserts. Don't miss the " Seafood Thursdays " (every Thursday) where you can choose your fish or seafood like at the fishmonger's before cooking it as you wish. Good brunch on Friday as well. For those who are willing to pay the price, this is undoubtedly one of the best gourmet restaurants in Cairo.

A rather warm, oriental-rustic atmosphere, and friendly waiters who work like bees to satisfy all these little people. The cooking is not always regular but it is especially necessary to go there for the shawarma and the fitirs that they succeed particularly well. It is rather a cheap address that stays open late at night which can help when you let yourself be taken by time. The small terrace overlooking the sea is very pleasant in summer, lunch in such a setting is certainly the most beautiful advantage of this address.

If there is a king of the foul, Ana Misho is the prince of kochery in Alexandria: he is undeniably good... and invigorating! This traditional recipe is made with macaroni, fried onions, brown lentils and tomato sauce, so much so that you will be satisfied at a lower cost! The place is clean and the service efficient: it's a good popular address, you can also order your kochery to go. A little advice, stick to the house specialty and avoid pasta and pizzas that are served in their own oil ..

This is Port-Saïd's emblematic pastry shop. Try its delicious butter croissants. In addition to viennoiseries, it offers a multitude of mouth-watering pastry creations and, of course, a whole range of oriental cakes, including a wonderful baklawa. Sandwiches, burgers, salads and pizzas are also available for lunch. You can also buy bags of confectionery and sweet petits-fours to take back to France as souvenirs. The interior is less attractive than the terrace on the street.

The inhabitants of the town will tell you, it is the best restaurant to offer you grilled meats, pigeons to become greedy! We also like its accompaniments: garnished vine leaves, accompanied by a yoghurt salad, vegetables cooked in tajine, samboussek filled with cheese and a delicious rice cake to finish. The pita is particularly fresh with a hummus perfect to accompany it! Very good address but a little more expensive than a simple Kebab restaurant. The place is clean and the service courteous.

It is the historic site of the chain that has now developed in Cairo. Another king in his field: rice pudding with different flavours. Same recommendation as in Cairo: ask for the whole thing with eichta (a thick, extremely fragrant milk cream) and raisins. Other specialities include louqmat al-qady doughnuts and iced compositions such as Mistka, a vanilla ice cream sprinkled with crushed nuts. On the spot or to take away, the sign makes sweet eyes with sweet beaks.

Formerly a place reserved for Greek nationals, this club is now open to everyone. You will meet artists and writers who do not make the headlines, but who continue to maintain an intellectual atmosphere. Basic menu of small dishes (mezzé) to share. One comes here above all for its vast exceptional terrace and its authentic atmosphere where tourists, residents and Egyptians mix. The interior room is not unpleasant either, but one has to be tolerant of more or less inspired pianists and singers.

This Syrian restaurant opened in 1949 has kept all its charm, it is an authentic and tasty address. In this chic and slightly old-fashioned decor, a very good cuisine is served with some well-known specialties such as grilled escalopes, chicken livers and pigeon. One is almost touched by the efforts made in the kitchen to present the dishes nicely. The service is courteous and attentive. A classic very appreciated by the Heliopolitans, which is revealing! Alcohol served with a good local wine list.

This Indian restaurant, right in the center of Mohandessin, belongs to the Oberoi group: the setting is chic, the food just right, and the prices very reasonable. What's more, the staff are very friendly: here, the waiters do everything to make you feel at ease. As for the food, there are no surprises: a variety of Indian specialties, from chicken byriani to samoussas and vegetarian dishes. The restaurant can be booked for private parties. Reservations can also be made for takeaway.

Restaurant on three levels on the banks of the Nile. You can either choose to gaze at the river and stay on land or dine in the boat and feel the lapping and swirling of the Nile. Being below the level of the Corniche, you also put away its hubbub to better appreciate the view. The menu of traditional Egyptian dishes is unpretentious but flawless. It also offers pasta and pizza specialties and, of course, mint tea and chichas! Very busy in season, it is sometimes necessary to be a little patient.

It is not easy to find a decent local restaurant in Aswan without finding oneself in the big hotels of the city. The al-Masri restaurant is a good alternative to the big hotels. The restaurant doesn't look like much, but you can eat well and at a low cost. Just a stone's throw from the cornice and five minutes from the train station, everyone knows this typical Egyptian grill restaurant. Not far from the souk too. The reception's nice. There are more locals than tourists, which is a good sign! We eat there pretty quickly.

Chicken specialities.

The restaurant Cléopatra is one of the few restaurants in the city of Noueiba. It is one of the most popular tourist establishments. Although the appetizer does not look like much, the traditional Egyptian and Lebanese dishes on offer, as well as the western dishes, are worth it. Very clean. Kitsch decoration. The place is perfect for a lunch break between two activities, sightseeing or sea. The owner, Mr. Ayman Ali, speaks perfect English and will give you a warm welcome.

It's a fun little trattoria in the Zamalek district, where you can have lunch for little money. The Didos al Dente serves delicious Italian specialities (the pasta is delicious...) made from top quality products. The portions are generous, and you get a full belly out of it. Lovers of fine pizza will not be disappointed, try for example the four cheeses, it is delicious. Attentive service and a relaxed atmosphere, an address with a good price-quality ratio, ideal for small groups.

Large stained glass and wood windows. Bel establishment. Her spinach is a real treat! Its rosemary chicken, the curry chicken and the banana. If you can, take a table along the Nile.

The favourite address of the late Georges Moustaki. A little off-centre, this restaurant has its feet in the water, on the sandy beach. Exceptional setting from which this traditional address benefits, serving plates essentially turned towards the sea. Great choice of charcoal-grilled fish including giant melting shrimps and absolutely delicious crabs. Ideal for a late lunch in the sun but to be avoided in winter, as it is cold. Following a change of ownership, the restaurant no longer serves alcohol.

A very good address where fish is cooked with taste and originality. More refined than most restaurants, Samakmak's cuisine knows just how to dose the quantities of oil, even in the fried dishes, which is rare enough to be noticed! Excellent prawns cooked to perfection and the mezze preceding the main course are just as succulent. Wine and beer are served, which is rare in Anfouchi restaurants. Simple setting, friendly atmosphere and particularly cheerful service.

It's a simple place, but that's all you need to know about the freshness and excellent cooking of the fish. You choose your order from an iced display, then indicate the cooking method you prefer (grilled, fried...). Mezze and fish soup are served while you prepare your dish, which arrives on a nicely laid table. It's often crowded, but there's always a place for you. Note that this is Alexandria's favorite sea-food address and that no alcohol is served.

A place of the Heliopolis bourgeoisie that offers, among other things, Swiss specialities, to be enjoyed indoors or on the pretty terrace. Everything is fresh and of high quality. The atmosphere here is old-fashioned, with antique furniture and decoration from the 1950s. Don't hesitate to try their excellent pastries, among the best in Cairo. You can also buy them to take away. The service is discreet and very professional. Beers and alcohol are served. Excellent value for money. In short, a beautiful address in the heart of Heliopolis.

It is delicious and refined, with all kinds of poultry, including the duck. Quiet and green location.

This restaurant used to work with the groups. If you decide to eat it, for example after the temple visit, first order, then visit and return to the table when everything is ready.

If you'd like to try something other than Egyptian cuisine, Box Meal is the place to go. Dishes from all over Asia, from sushi to Thai noodles and a host of Chinese dishes: your palate will be delighted by these flavors from another continent. What's more, a very pleasant terrace awaits gourmands upstairs, just a few steps from the marina. Special mention for the toilets, the cleanest in town. A good address, excellent cuisine and attentive service: we recommend this place!

The Bab-El Yemen restaurant is a popular address for Cairo's Yemeni community, where you don't have to eat greasy food. All specialties are served here, accompanied by freshly baked bread cakes. Specialties include al-Mandi, zurbian, foie, bint al-sahn and all the rest of Yemen's famous cuisine. Sweet tooths are not left out, with delicious desserts, Adeni tea and sweets offered at the end of the meal. An address that will delight all lovers of this cuisine!

Fun setting in a villa and its terrace in the west of Zamalek. The marquee-shaped canvas roof over the garden insulates you from outside noise, almost forgetting you are in Cairo. Mostly Egyptian, the cuisine is of good quality with a few surprises à la carte: sliced veal à la zurichoise, fondue bourguignonne and French fries that some would say are the best in the city! The atmosphere is soft, lulled by the melodies of the pianist who plays live almost every night.

Beneath its nostalgic exterior, this villa features five indoor and outdoor living spaces, where you can enjoy lunch, dinner, chicha, drinks and dancing. Suffice it to say, it's firmly rooted in its time! We're not talking haute cuisine here, but it's not bad at all (pizzas, fajitas, pastas, salads, cordons bleus, grilled meats and fish, ice creams: there's something for everyone!) The combo for a festive evening is to come for an aperitif, then dinner and, finally, to set the dance-floor alight late into the night.

An institution in Khan el-Khalili, where you can eat fettir, available in any accompaniment: meat, vegetables, cheese, but also chocolate, honey or sugar. The place is just a few meters from the al-Hussan mosque, at the entrance to Khan-al-Khalili. As a result, the restaurant quickly becomes overcrowded. But it's still the best place to have lunch when you finish visiting the Khan in the morning and want to cross Gohar al-Qaed to Islamic Cairo. We recommend it!

Excellent Thai address with many years of reputation. The restaurant is located in the luxurious Sémiramis Hotel, just a few meters from Tahrir Square and the National Museum. Its geographical position makes it a strategic place to take a lunch break before leaving the downtown area and its thousand and one secrets. To digest, walking in the Manial district may be an option. To do this you will only have to go along the cornice and ask one of the falouka navigators to take you across the Nile to the foot of the Manial Palace.
