It is the largest airport in the country and has all the services required: wifi, ATM, catering, duty free... It is located about 20 kilometres from the city centre. Be careful, it is necessary to specify to the taxi driver, at your departure, if you are leaving from terminal 1 or 3 (sala, in Arabic). Terminal 3 is now the main point of departure for Europe. It is indeed terminal 3 and not hall 3 (beb 3, in Arabic) of terminal 1: please be absolutely clear!

Arrival: two mats for local flights, three mats for international flights. Departure: ticket offices located in the same hall. Located 6 km from the city, a bus service connects the airport to Luxor. This small airport renovated in the early 2000s has all the necessary services (ATM, catering, duty free...)

Aswan railway station is a classic little station, with the same neo-Egyptian architecture as all the stations in Upper Egypt. There's a small cafeteria and a cash dispenser. There's also a special ticket office for sleeping cars. For conventional trains, you'll have to elbow your way to get your ticket, so it's best to ask your hotel concierge to arrange it for you. Cairo/Aswan: 137 LE in 2nd, duration 13h; Aswan/Louxor: 62 LE in 2nd, duration 3h. Sleeping car: Cairo/Aswan: US$80 in double cabin, departure at 7pm, arrival at 10am.

There's no need to introduce the international app that lets you get around any city in the world. In Cairo and Egypt, this app is widely used by both native and adopted Egyptians. We recommend that you install the app before your trip, along with your means of payment. That way, there are no nasty surprises when it comes to prices or drivers taking you from one place to another: just register your departure and arrival addresses (even if you need help from your guide or host) and off you go, Simone!

GARE CENTRALE

Train

The place, not entirely foreign to movie lovers, served as the unique setting for Gare Centrale, one of Youssef Chahine's most famous films. The large building, built in the 19th century, is rather elegant for a railway station. It remains the junction between the railway and the metro. The colossal statue of Ramses II that stood in the middle of the footbridges has been moved, suffering from pollution. In the middle of the great hall, the information kiosk of the railway station will tell you where you can buy the ticket for your destination.

Although small, the airport is modern, there is a small catering service, wi-fi, an exchange office and an ATM. You can also rent a car there, although it is better not to take too much risk on the Egyptian roads!
