According to Christian legend, the house of the Holy Family of Nazareth, carried by angels, appeared on the hill in 1291. Read moreOn its promontory, the monastery of St. Jerome, the patron saint of Dalmatia, was founded in 1430.
In the inner courtyard, there is still the epitaph to Šimun Kožičić-Benja (1460-1536), the primate of Rijeka who had the first book printed in glagolitic. In the cloister, his tombstone remains, as well as a beautiful colonnade with capitals carved with plant, animal or human heads. It is possible to stay in this calm and soothing place.

Read more10 km to the east of Drniš, this village saw the growth of the sculptor Ivan Meštrović (1883-1962), who had a family mausoleum built on top of the hill Paraćeva glavica from 1926 to 1930. There he will be buried, surrounded by his mother Marta, his father Mate, his brothers Marko and Petar, his son Tvertko and his wife Olga. Under the dome, the New Testament representations are to be compared with the Way of the Cross in the Christic Chapel (Meštrović I Obnovljene Crikvine) in Split.
