The best accommodations Burundi

The hotel is opposite the offices of the Iteka League, near high school. The rooms have only single beds, there is no catering. A relief address.

The Bene Tereziya sisters of Burundi, whose congregation was recognized by Rome in 1954, have an ancient educational vocation, but also agricultural activities to support their needs and an intense spiritual life, between prayer and meditation.

In the country, for several years, the congregation has opened several places of accommodation whose success is welcome, whether it be in Banga, in Kigozi at Cohoha Lake (Kirundo Province) or in Gitega (Mushasha district). In each of these establishments, the rooms and decoration are personalized, with a sober but never sullen taste, and most of the time, the places are located in flowery gardens, which are calm and peaceful. We must not hesitate to come, the sisters are also very open and often hilarious.

Just opposite the Shalom Lodge, this hotel is a corner of the street hidden behind large walls. The rooms are of the same type as those of the Shalom, fundamentally acceptable.

Along the road, on the left of the RN 1, at the very beginning of the city coming from Bugarama, you find this house, modest, but whose rooms are cared for and where the reception is smiling. An Internet café is adjoining, and opposite is another house of passage.

Less than 100 metres from Kijana - Modern Bar. We are here in a real African court, that of a house directed with smile and firmness by Jacqueline, whose children run everywhere, or cry upon arrival of a pale face… A nice atmosphere, the change of scenery and the daily micro-adventures guaranteed for all honourable rooms. In addition, Jacqueline cuisine in this courtyard and its small canteen welcomes a popular and curious clientele.

On the road towards Rumonge (RN 3), in a street on the right, just after the small Kanyosha seminary. Recently renovated, the hotel is well kept but the rooms may not be worth their hot water, with the disadvantage of not having breakfast or having to return early (early closing of the doors in the evening is common in the city centre).

At the end of a road to the right after the National Museum, this hotel opened in April 2012 is a good one. The plain rooms are beautifully decorated with the inspiration of Burundi (calabash, baskets…), the lounges are filled with large, relaxing armchairs, and the swimming pool at the bottom of the two buildings is most welcoming. The strength therapy equipment is state-of-the-art.

A new address in Makamba, managed by the Orphans'Aid Association Abana Makamba, itself supported by the region of the Pays de la Loire with the association Abana Nantes. The guest is located on the road to Bururi, from the central roundabout of Makamba, 200 metres on the left, in a new area commonly called «Chez». The rooms are spacious and bright. From the garden you can admire a beautiful landscape of hills in front of the hotel.

Located next to the health centre of Mwaro, this guest opened in June 2012 is still completely new. The furniture in this lovely house is tasteful, and guests have a superb living room and a kitchen equipped to organise their own meals. It is an ideal address for groups wishing to retain their autonomy by travelling together.

On a large plot on the right hand side just after the Red Cross, this large house is pretty, its spacious and very clean rooms. It would be almost a place to rent for a small group.

Léonce, a retired army colonel and his wanted wife, has been holding this guest in an elegant two-storey residence for some years with a large terrace. Located just a short distance from the other two hotels in Rutovu, this little more expensive hotel is also more user-friendly, with an almost family atmosphere. European co-operators are set up until 2013, but beyond the house, they must regain their hotel vocation.

About 7-8 km from Mwaro on the RN 18 towards Gitega, this small country hotel in the centre of the Kibumbu mini-agglomeration is clean and well maintained, ideal for prolonged rural rest. Armand, who manages the institution, speaks French.

On the RN 18 from Mwaro to Gitega, about 5-6 km from Mwaro and 2 km before Kibumbu. A hotel built on a steep slope, on the edge of the trail. The rooms are clean, without unnecessary comfort, but with the most kind welcome. The hotel also has a snack bar and is located at the end of the day.

At 7-8 km from Tora, coming from Matana, on the right of the road, this guest has the attraction of his situation, along the road while no junction or point of embarkation of minibuses suggests that one can stop there. A style that can be enjoyed by tourists who would not have the means to stay in the corner of tea, and who would like to meet the world. The rooms are basic but cleaned.

A minimalist address for convinced routard or tourist tourists in one of the quietest parts of Buyenzi. Useful to know, in case…

Just opposite the market and next to the Rama Hotel, this small hotel does not pay a mine but is an inexpensive alternative for an extra home. The rooms, rudimentary and exigües, are distributed in small houses, with a large lounge without luxury. Most of the health is common (a soap is provided but not a towel). An ideal place to make progress in kirundi since the staff, including Spéciose, the smiling manager, don't speak French really.

This small hotel is located at the entrance to the city from Makebuko in the Gasanda district. A large area, with large garden, but the rooms are a little sad, not very "Sun".

At the entrance to the city from Gitega, a rudimentary cottage in the Gasanda district of the same type as the Garkedi Lodge or the Sun. The rooms and the rooms are small, it is a little damp.
