Brought with passion for over ten years by the Film directors Society, the Rencontres du Moyen de Brive have an important reputation in France and in the Cinema world. They are supported by many partners (the City, the Department, the Limousin Region, the Ministry of Culture (DRAC), the CNC, as well as by private companies. A unique festival in Europe to be entirely devoted to the free format of the medium film (length between 30 and 60 minutes), the event aims to promote exchanges between the public and professionals around a very varied programming: more than one hundred projections, a competition of recent films, tributes, school programming, round tables, a film concert, but also public-teams meetings around an aperitif, educational workshops in the image, debates of rare works… Time of thematic and Retrospective is also very popular with the public: previously devoted to Olivera Manuel or Peter Watkins, Agnès Varda or Japanese filmmaker Koji Wakamatsu, in 2016 Chantal Akerman and Apichatpong Weerasethakul were in Honour.

Notice to film lovers! Created in 2010, this film festival honors a country each year (Spain in 2023, the USA in 2020, Iran in 2016...). During two weeks, the public can discover more than 70 films projected in various places of the Country of Issoire (Issoire, Apchat, Brassac-les-Mines...). Some films are shown for the first time in France, Europe or even the world! Master class and animations for children also punctuate the week.

20 years! Travelling has reached adulthood: a longevity and a success (almost 45 000 entries for previous editions) that would not have dared to imagine Hussam Hindi and Eric Gouzannet, co-founders of the festival and the association organizing it, Clair Arcane, the main actor of the reindeer rennes. With half a dozen films in competition and a wide selection of shorts and features, this 30-year-old festival is a testament to the vitality of British independent cinema. The event in Dunkirk has launched the careers of "small films" in France that nobody would have bet a kopeck on, such as Billy Elliott or The Full Monty. Its small size allows it to remain a friendly place of exchange, where one can easily discuss with the artists present.

Since 1994, the Gérardmer International Fantastic Film Festival has been thrilling audiences with films based on the unreal, the marvelous and horror. It's a film genre that's found its audience, who turn out in droves to enjoy the scares. The festival's atmosphere is perfectly in tune with the surrounding landscapes of snow-covered fir trees and frozen lakes. EntreVues offers retrospective programming that allows audiences of all ages to explore the vast expanses of cinephilia.

Children, too, have their own film festival: less glamorous and media-friendly than Cannes, this festival nonetheless has the merit of exposing children and teenagers to original artistic practices and visual universes. An international, never-before-seen selection of fiction, animation, documentary and short films is screened for ages 3 to 15 in 18 art house cinemas in the Val-de-Marne.

This national festival of school and university cinema is primarily intended to develop creative and artistic initiatives in Chartres; it is also an opportunity for exchanges between students, students, teachers and audiovisual professionals. The principle? For a few days, short films (fiction, documentary, reportage, clip, animation…) made by classes or by individual students are submitted to a jury, and screened publicly. Since 1997, this small Gard village has been the setting for a film festival like no other. The program includes street events, exhibitions, photo competitions and, of course, film screenings on subjects closely related to the festival theme. Active since 2001, the Toulouse-based association Les Vidéophages is a leading figure in the distribution of short films and image education. A genuine alternative in the audiovisual landscape, its programming is atypical, friendly and associative. Favoring partnerships with local authorities, cultural centers and educational structures, Vidéophages plays an active role in democratizing access to short films. The Faites de l'Image festival, launched in 2002, is emblematic of this desire to take images out of their context and reach out to all audiences.

La Karrière is a spectacular place where nature and art meet. Center of artistic creation par excellence, managed by an association, it animates the territory of the Hautes Côtes de Nuit and makes music, graphic art and wine meet. Located on the site of an old stone quarry in Comblanchien, the theater and its monumental frescoes made on the face of size of over 12 meters impress. The cultural program is announced on the website and can be visited even outside of events.

Present in Toulouse for over 30 years, the Séquence Court-Métrage festival has become a not-to-be-missed event for lovers of short films. Every year, over 1,300 short films, ranging from fiction to animation to documentary, are screened during the festival. From the four corners of the globe, these little audiovisual nuggets offer a rich and varied panorama of contemporary short films. Whether you're a seasoned film buff or simply curious, Séquence Court-Métrage is sure to satisfy with its rich and exciting program.

The Ecociné Verdon cinema is located at the Centre de Congrès L'Étoile, 8 Avenue Pierre Brossolette in Gréoux-les-Bains. It offers a varied program of films in different genres, including comedies, thrillers, animated features and action movies. The cinema also offers special screenings of operas, ballets and plays by the Comédie Française. The cinema also offers screenings in the original version with French subtitles. The Fantastic Film Festival program is divided between two activities: Fantastic Conventions and screenings of old horror films. Adjacent to the brasserie of the same name, Le Méliès cinema screens films that you probably won't find in other cinemas in town. Independent and heritage cinema, films in VO, must-see films in VF... This venue screens 5 to 6 international feature-length films a week, and is a favorite with all cinephiles. Le Méliès is also two cinemas, offering twice as many screenings: the largest is located on Place Jean Jaurès, with 4 screens, and the other in the Saint-François district (bonus: a room with a balcony!). It is also one of the few cinemas to offer solidarity tickets for people on low incomes.

The Emmuscades is a series of open-air cinema sessions that take place in the heart of sublime wine estates. This event is organized by the association Hallu'cinés, passionate about cinema, rare and independent films. A little gem, it is a very friendly meeting. Before the projection, the spectators will be able to taste a plate of mussels with a glass of Muscat for the aperitif. The evening can continue around the food-trucks or picnics drawn from the bag. At nightfall, you can sit in front of the screen, under the stars.

After Film Festival and Ciné Cool, Alsatians are spoiled in terms of culture! All of them have put this annual film event on their agenda! Le Printemps du cinéma is an opportunity to leave home after a harsh winter to see the new releases on the big screen. On the bill: animation, fantasy, comedy, horror... You will have a lot of choices with a really attractive single price! The 2019 edition was a real success, as it is every year. There is no doubt that 2020 will also be with unique and original programming for a one-time admission fee allowing a real three-day film marathon.

france's^3rd-largest short-film competition, the European Film Festival attracts some 6,000 spectators every year. This competition for short films of all kinds aims to promote French and European cinema, but not only that... It's also an excellent opportunity for film professionals to meet their Lille audiences! Pascal Légitimus, Joey Starr, Gary Lewis, Mathieu Kassovitz and many others have taken part in the event during their respective careers.

A cultural initiative that had to be included in our guide. In 2024, the festival celebrates its ^32nd anniversary. The principle? The screening of films or shorts in which the heroes are children. A great way to paint children from all over the world, the project travels throughout the region. Themed evenings include manga, documentaries and short films, as well as ciné-goûter, guest screenings and prize-giving by a high-school jury.
