CINEMA LES VARIÉTÉS

Cinema
3.8/5
4 reviews

A place devoted to entertainment for 150 years, this historic cinema was first called Le Casino (1857) then Les Folies marseillaises (1878) before the construction of the Théâtre des Variétés in 1887, of which the facade sculpted by the architect Joseph Letz remains today. After an uncertain year 2016 and three years of struggle following the loss in 2013 of its Art et Essai label, the future of cinema was shaky, but finally the commercial court ruled and it was taken over by Jean Mizrahi (YMAGIS). Major renovations were undertaken in 2019 and it is now as good as new, while retaining its cachet. Renewed comfort, modernity, a major historical cinema to be supported for sure. Programming of major, alternative and documentary films. The culture of Marseilles is partly played out here.

This "small" independent cinema opened in 1985 in Carpentras. He was picked up in 1993 by Florence Passalacqua and his husband, and can boast very satisfactory figures even though he has to deal with the mastodons of the Commerciaux-Pathé of commercial centres: more than 17 000 entries per year, a little less than 300 screened films and an extension that follows its course, since it has gone from 2 rooms during its recovery, to 4 today, most equipped for people with reduced mobility. The issue of digital switchover arises, but for the rest, this couple of passionate people will lose sight of their convictions: a striking balance between blockbusters/public films ("Harry Potter", "Sherlock Holmes", "Untouchables"…) and independent art and essay films with "young public" labels, "I am called Bernadette", "It was Anatolia", "La twig", etc. Also a space for receiving it. school and film fans, for moments of theme and sharing encounters around one or more films.

LES ENFANTS DU PARADIS

1 review

From the old cinema that was installed here in the last century, it only kept the name and facade of white stone. But since then, it has grown considerably, and today we can see around this old window, a metal lace that gives its appearance to the imposing building. If it can give the impression of being still in work, the interior of the cinema is very spacious - with the exception perhaps of the entrance hall, which is crowded when the crowd presses to see one of the films in the poster. Fortunately, the rooms are very comfortable and rather elegant. Every week, more than films are offered, and there are usually for all tastes. As for the price of entries, they are unfortunately available (the cinema can afford it, as it has the monopoly over the chartraine agglomeration), but know that if you are amateurs of fast food you can benefit from various discounts in the restaurants Mc Donald's Chartres, thanks to your movie tickets. They also guarantee 50% discount to the Q-Park underground car park (Saint-Michel), within a maximum of 2 hours.

CINEMA MEGARAMA BEAUX-ARTS

Cinema
4/5
1 review

Adjacent to the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the covered market, with its 8 screens, it offers all the services of a modern multiplex: some 20 films on the bill, previews and a counter packed with sweets and other beverages to make your session greedy and pleasant. Behind its large bay windows, clean and comfortable, without being a shopping-zone cinema, it welcomes both mainstream films and arthouse screenings. The Mégarama Beaux-Arts is cinema in a big way, on a giant screen, and it's sure to revitalize the city center! With a foggy head or a smile on your face, your mind will be on your session, alone or with friends, and its location will even allow you to go for a nightcap after the last screening, to discuss the film or gently recover your spirits.
