Day 1: Bordeaux to La Sauve-Majeure (30 km via the Lapébie trail)

Steps: Bordeaux, Créon, La Sauve

From the quays of Bordeaux, a cycle path takes you to a small road winding along the Garonne, which leads to Latresne and the junction with the Roger Lapébie cycle path. At the crossroads of the Canal des Deux Mers© and the Scandibérique©, this path was built on a former railroad line. In the former stations, which have now been restored, you'll find tourist information points and refreshment stops (cafés, bar-brocantes...). During the day, you'll pass through the beautiful bastide town of Créon before reaching theAbbey of La Sauve-Majeure, a masterpiece of Romanesque art and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can also sample Entre-deux-Mers wines at the Maison des vins de La Sauve. For the more sporty, you can add loop no. 16 (21 km) on quiet country roads.

Day 2: From La Sauve-Majeure to Sauveterre (28 km via the cycle path)

Steps: Sauveterre-De-Guyenne

To start your day along the Lapébie greenway, on the Canal des 2 Mers© cycling route, you'll enjoy a unique experience as you pass through the La Sauve tunnel (259 m). Woods, vineyards... the bucolic landscapes of the Bordeaux hinterland await you. You'll then enter the small town of Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, which still has the characteristic appearance of a bastide, with its geometric layout, square square lined with arcades and four remarkably well-preserved rectangular gates.

Day 3: From Sauveterre to Monségur (29 km)

Steps: Castelmoron-D'Albret, Monségur

This tour takes you along the roads of the Bordeaux hinterland, through vineyards and mixed farming. During the day, you'll discover France's smallest commune, Castelmoron d'Albret. Built on a rocky outcrop, giving it a very picturesque appearance, this small fortified medieval town is a real gem. It's well worth stopping to stroll through its flower-filled streets, admire its old houses, cobbled streets and fortified gates. And now, off to Monségur! Along the peaceful, shady Dropt valley, the fortified mills of Bagas and Loubens are a reminder that Entre-deux-Mers was once the breadbasket of the Bordeaux region. Finally, we come to Monségur, the only bastide town in the Gironde. Founded in 1265 by Éléonore de Provence, it has preserved the original layout of these new towns of the Middle Ages: the square with its covered market, an Eiffel-style market hall, timber-framed houses and its covered walkway overlooking the Dropt valley, offering a shady riverside stroll.

Day 4: From Monségur to Fontet via La Réole (35 km)

Steps: Fontet, La Réole, Monségur

For this last day, you will make a loop around the bastide of Monségur by taking small roads before taking again the bicycle route of the Canal des 2 Mers© to join La Réole and Fontet. For a visit, let your bike rest to ride through the steep streets of the city of Art and History of La Réole and see the Benedictine priory, the oldest town hall in France, the half-timbered houses... You will then reach the port of Fontet, along the lateral canal of the Garonne. The old towpath will take the most courageous to Toulouse and even to Sète!
