At the end of Galway's famous Quay Street is this cosy, warm little address offering a wide range of delicious dishes: mushroom and spinach soup, crab bruschetta, slow-cooked pork neck and mash potatoes, beef and Guinness stew with crusty bread... Everything is good, prepared with care from local products. Add to that vegan and gluten free options, honest prices and smiling service and it all adds up!

MC DONAGH’S

For four generations, this has been the place to go in Galway for those who love fish, seafood and all the flavors of the sea. The establishment houses two different areas: a fish and chips side (to eat in or take away) and a restaurant side offering daily fish and a wide variety of seafood (oysters, mussels, salmon, crab, hake and much more!) all freshly caught, of course. In short, the food is good and the atmosphere is friendly.

QUAY WEST

Located on the Wild Atlantic Way, this warm, multi-award-winning restaurant with a gastro menu is also a hybrid of a typical pub and a Bed & Breakfast ideally placed on the banks of the River Moy, just outside town. In the restaurant, we recommend the fish specialties, always very well served, and the freshly caught seafood. Gourmets can also indulge in home-made desserts. The Bed & Breakfast has 20 pleasant rooms.

BASILICO RESTAURANT

Set in an ancient stone barn, this establishment opened in 2008 and has been established as the inevitable area. There is an award-winning Italian restaurant with generous fresh produce, a bistro with classic Italian dishes and a pub. One of the Italian bosses speaks French and one of the servers is French.

On the upstairs, Coach House offers 16 charming, simple and quiet rooms. Breakfast is served at the bistro. As the boss is painter, the place also has an art gallery.

TRATTORIA MAGNETTI

Italian restaurant and pizzeria €€

Owned by brothers Sean and Marco Magnetti, this trattoria, originally created by their parents on Cross Street in 1989, moved to Quay Street in 1994. It was then called Pasta Mista, evoking the fresh pasta prepared by the family, a tradition still alive today. In fact, you can still find recipes from their early days. Homemade pasta (gluten-free option), focaccia panini, fresh ravioli and pizzas made with dough that has risen for 72 hours are all on the menu at this charming family-run restaurant. The team is attentive and the prices fair.

CAFE ROSCOE'S

Takeaway food €€

Perfect for breakfast or brunch on the go, on site or to take away. The team is friendly, the service fast and the choice varied, fromIrish breakfast to US-made pancakes, sandwiches, wraps and fresh bagels, not forgetting the inevitable scones. The coffee is tasty, as are the fresh fruit smoothies. The value for money is one of the best in Galway, and the food is healthy. To get there, just follow the flags.... the café is just below!

DELA

World cuisine restaurant €€

It's the place to be for brunch! Locals and visitors queue early, as the establishment doesn't take reservations, except for dinners from Friday to Sunday. The address is comforting with its bohemian decor, soft playlist, pretty paintings and luminous tree. On the plate, a hearty traditional breakfast and tasty European dishes (vegetarian option) prepared with local produce from the owners' farm. The bread is homemade, as is the coffee, roasted on the farm.
