This temple is one of six Bali axial temples (sad kahyangan). The central courtyard consists of two grands, extending in length and the inner courtyard three meru roofs with three, five and seven storeys. The most important sanctuary with its seven-storey meru is dedicated to Mahadewa, the god of the Batukau who represents the west. The environment is fabulous; flowers abound, hibiscus and cempaka, camboja and ixora, temples of temples crushed under green mosses and lichens that invaded brick. Here you are in nature, far from the tourist noise, in an enchanting place where birds come from. The temple dates from the th century and was dedicated to its construction to the king of Tabanan. Despite the destruction of the temple by Panji Sakti of Buléléng in 1604, the faithful returned to the ruins until his restoration in 1959! The temple is sacred, which means you will have to wear the sarong and a wrap around the waist. A little to the east of it, a small basin with a small island in the middle symbolizes the Mahameru, the sacred mountain of Hinduism.

The ascent of Batukau. If you want to climb the sacred mount Batukau (2 276 m), ask for a guide in Wangayagedé. Its price should approximate 700 000 to 800 000 Pr. Walk, long and arduous, take at least 9 hours round-trip and often much more! The ground is furniture and the ascent can only be made at the time of the dry season, with the region being too wet to risk the rainy season. The path of the Pura Luhur Batukau and descend into a cloud forest until the summit. So we have to provide good, hot and rain-resistant clothing. Due to its length, this hike requires an excellent physical condition. At the top of the volcano is a small temple temple of the Pura Luhur Batukau.

This sanctuary dates back to the th century. After the defeat of the kingdom in 1891, it was abandoned. The earthquake of 1917 concluded to destroy it. It was restored in the 1950 s. The big bentar candy of the entrance is original. Now, there is a small side door in the first courtyard of the temple where there is a superb pavilion and many padmasana, lined behind three grand altars that would represent the captains of a boat carrying the ashes of an emperor of Mojopahit. The big-roof brick tower would talk about a crematory tower. Kapal is also renowned for its ceramics: look at Jati Agung.

Located east of the great road, this temple is the second largest Balinese temple after that of Besakih. Founded in 1740, it is the work of Cokorda Munggu, the most famous king of Mwengi, who moved the seat of the kingdom of Kapal to Mengwi. The great monarch built another palace, Puri Gedé Mengwi a little distance from Pura Taman Ayu. The temple is surrounded by moat. Among the rows of altars where the gods come to visit at the ceremonies (palinggih), you will see the eastern oriented paibon which represents the royal altar. The size of the pavilions, their insertion into the great arrangement of the moat and terraces, the location and height of the méru, make Du Ayun one of the most beautiful Balinese temples.
