A must-see temple in Sukawati, featuring a gigantic symbolic gate with magnificent Boma sculptures.
At Pura Desa, a gigantic symbolic gate, or candi bentar, with magnificent sculptures of Boma (earth demon, protector against evil spirits) opens onto the Jaba courtyard, from which you can see the Kori Agung (great gate). This can only be entered during odalan. Once a year, the temple becomes a place of recollection for the surrounding royal houses in Ubud, Peliatan, Tegallalang and elsewhere. It was destroyed by the earthquakes that followed the eruption of Gunung Batur in 1917 and was partially rebuilt.
