As sometimes happens on Mitchell Street, the end of the evening can get a bit out of hand. Pub crawls often end at Monsoons or Lost Ark, open until 4am.

One of the best places in Alice Springs to have a coffee or a quick lunch while exploring the stores and aboriginal art galleries of Todd Mall. Order outside, then enjoy either the air conditioning and cool decor inside, or the shade and green plants in the alley.

Especially on Sunday mornings when the Todd Mall market fills the street. The place transforms in the evening, especially when local musicians or DJs perform (check Epilogue's Facebook page for the schedule). In high season, head up to the rooftop to indulge in the bar and dance floor under the stars!

The toilets at the back leave something to be desired. Located in the heart of Parap, the place is nice during the week (especially the Outstation art gallery), but really comes alive on Saturdays when the market takes place on the square. Parap Market is often crowded, and is a great place to try street food from all over the world, for art, clothes.

Read moreThe Ilkari restaurant, whose name means sky in the Pitjantjara language of the Anangu of Uluru, offers all-you-can-eat buffets for breakfast and dinner. Very international buffet, there is really something for everyone. For dinner, a selection of seafood, which is quite special in this part of the world (!). Australian and Asian cuisine, with notably some dishes using aboriginal ingredients. The chocolate fondue is also impressive and will not disappoint you! The restaurant is located in the Sails in the Desert hotel.
KATHERINE COUNTRY CLUB

The menu includes all the classics, pizzas, pastas, schnitzel, steaks and the classic barramundi with fries. You can dine inside or outside on the lawn under the stars. It is also the clubhouse for Katherine's golf and lawn bowls, if you want to spend a pleasant afternoon before going to the pub. There is often live music and events, check out Facebook.
HANUMAN

Using local products as much as possible, Hanuman is the work of Jimmy Shu, a chef from Sri Lanka who arrived in Australia at the age of 21 with $50 in his pocket. He was the star of the Taste of the Territory series, where he showcased the culinary diversity of the NT. Those who liked it can also dine at Hanuman in Darwin, which is actually the first restaurant Jimmy Shu launched in 1992. The "Thai crispy whole fish" is delicious!
CASA NOSTRA
Read moreFor those who are in the mood for a good pizza after a desert crossing, Casa Nostra is a traditional Italian restaurant, with red and white checkered tablecloths and paintings and pictures of the country on the walls. Very popular with the locals, it is often quite crowded. They don't serve alcohol, so feel free to buy your own (small IGA supermarket nearby). The vanilla slice, famous in the whole Red Centre, will punctuate your dinner, don't hesitate to order it at the beginning of the meal, there is not enough for everyone.
BERRY SPRINGS TAVERN

Crocodile on the roof, in an aquarium and crocodile skins above the bar. Lots of toys and coloring for the little ones.

Tables inside (well air conditioned) or outside where beautiful trees provide shade. The name of the café comes from the Gouldian Finch, a small colorful bird that lives all over the Top End but is very very rare to see in the wild. The area around Katherine, especially Edith Falls, is one of the best places in the NT to see it.

This is the water ski club; you have to put your name on the register when you are not a member, it may surprise you but it costs nothing. Located right next to MAGNT, the NT museum, so convenient for a pint or a snack after your visit.
RAPID CREEK MARKET

There are street food specialities from all over the world. You can feel (and taste) the proximity of Southeast Asia. Try the green papaya salad, mango lassi or a Top End version of laska (spicy!), which has become a real local specialty. Bring cash with you. Parap Markets on Saturdays are also a must.
