Beaucaire

In the land of Argence, Beaucaire breathes Provence. Licked by the waters of the Rhone, natural border with the neighbouring Bouches-du-Rhône, Beaucaire can boast of its past by displaying the title of City of Art and History. Its old town centre with its numerous private mansions, and its medieval fortress perched on a rocky spur overlooking the river add to the charm of this city of character. Beaucaire is a city of craftsmen, with many craftsmen, potters, ceramists, or painters, who open their workshops to visitors. A city of sharing which will be the starting point of your journey. Take the Chemin de Gaudon - Voie Verte du Martinet, and walk along the Rhône. Here, the majestic river has 63 km left before it flows into the Grande Bleue. The most beautiful place to observe it is the Abbey of Saint-Roman: a former troglodytic monastery carved into the limestone rock, the place offers an incredible panorama of the Rhône and beyond, of the town of Tarascon.

On the banks of the river Gardon

Then continue in the direction of Comps, it is then the Gardon which will be your companion of road! A wild river if ever there was one, the Gardon is often capricious. During the meteorological episodes that hit the region in the autumn, its waters can quickly become tumultuous, but this does not detract from the beauty of the landscape that they breathe. So be careful around it. Walk at your own pace, passing under the High Speed Line in the direction of Montfrin.

The Fountain of Font Cluse

When you reach Meynes, don't miss the opportunity to stop by this fountain. This spring, discovered by the soldiers of Charles Martel in the 8th century during the battle against the Saracens, would be "miraculous". Indeed, these same soldiers suffering from wounds would have cleaned their wounds with its waters: the healing was such that the doctors of the camp lent therapeutic properties to the spring. From then on, many famous people came to take advantage of the benefits of this mineral water: Charlemagne, François I and Louis XIII. Continue your journey on the Voie Verte (Green Way) which runs alongside the Route de Sernhac.

The perched village of Sernhac

Here, you are invited to travel through time: you are indeed going through the tunnels of Sernhac, dug by the Romans in the 1st century to make the aqueduct that supplied Nîmes with water. During this shady moment of coolness, don't miss the traces of tools that cut the stone, the holes to install the oil lamps or the chimneys through which the gravel passed.

The Pont du Gard

As you approach Remoulins, the Gardon river meanders like a graceful preamble to the Pont du Gard which will be your next stop. Isn't it majestic? This bridge, which for 2000 years has been observing our comings and goings along its arches, watches bathers enjoy the waters of the Gardon, stands up to the latter when its waters become angry, and lights up in summer under the magic of the fireworks show. World Heritage of Humanity, Great Site of France, this old man anchors his wealth in a natural site of exception whose preservation is the lot of all. Attention : For the safety of all, the passage on the slabs of the Pont du Gard is MUST be done on foot.

Uzès

For the users wanting to go to Uzès after visiting the Pont du Gard, they will find themselves on the left bank with a section developed and in service from the Pont du Gard to the RD981/RD227 roundabout. After crossing the RD981, you will find the Voie Verte from Vers Pont du Gard to Uzès (Pont des Charettes sector) which will be in service in July 2020. The Uzège region welcomes you with its most beautiful representative, the "little Tuscany" of the Gard, Uzès. Chosen by Jean-Paul Rappeneau to shoot Cyrano de Bergerac, Uzès is the "Jewel of the Garrigue". You only have to look up to see its richness and admire the Bermonde Tower of the Duchy, the Cathedral of Saint-Théodorti and the Fenestrelle Tower. Uzès is also a city of private mansions and a maze of cobbled streets leading to charming shady squares where fountains, wells and washhouses provide freshness. Here in Uzège, you are also in a land where gastronomy is king: its black truffle of the Country of Uzès, classified remarkable Site of the taste, testifies it. Multiple flavors are also at the rendezvous of markets that, all year, animate the city. The Place aux Herbes welcomes the producers of the region, and in the shade of its plane trees invites your taste buds to mouth-watering tastings.

Note that a crossing structure of the RD981 at the exit of Vers must be put in service in order to propose a solution of crossing made safe by the realization of an underpass under the RD.
