Monuments to visit Haute-Marne

This beautiful wharf derives its name from the échalas of the vineyard which occupied all the slopes of the surroundings of Modèle, until the end of the th century. These "guardians" were kept in the ground, to strengthen them. On the walk, we can see the last trace of the ramparts: A tower, whose corbeaux, supporting the round road, are still present. The library of Nogent has several interests: it is first a place of memory of the character whose name it bears: Bernard Dimey, poet, lyricist, author of songs that became legendary such as "Syracuse". If you go through this charming village, go to the Lavoir washing house. It is very original. Built in 1878 by Mr. Tiriot, then mayor and carpenter, this washer has a remarkably impressive configuration since it is half-spherical. Its charpente-shaped frame of vessel, concentrated around a unique punch. Its structure has a seven-sided roof. This wash was created to allow the ladies to wash their linen (before it had to take 3 kms to go to the fountain of the virgin in the forest) and irrigate the animals. In summer, it is flowered, like the whole village, and becomes a bucolic and refreshing place.

Washing are very present in Haute-Marne, there are everywhere in villages and some are beautiful (143 referenced); Chateauvillain doesn't escape this beautiful rule! Built at the Revolution, the wash-house located on the fountain of the Fountain, features the particularity of being equipped with a floating wooden flooring. Now we can better understand how lavandières, thanks to this ingenious system, can adjust the height of the wooden wooden floor on which they washed.
