THÉÂTRE DES MATHURINS

Theater

This centenary room has undergone countless transformations. In 1893 is open here a large living room that is quickly transformed into theatre. It really was born in 1898, but only took its current name in 1912. Work is ongoing. Sacha Guitry made her debut at the Mathurins theatre in 1905 with Nono. He remains faithful to this room for fifteen years. Georges and Ludmilla Pitoëff then printed their mark in the history of the Mathurins where they climbed pieces of George-Bernard Shaw, Luigi Pirandello, Jean Anouilh, among others. In 1953 the theatre is run by Rika Radifé alias Radifé Behar. Pirandello, John Osborne, Marguerite Duras, Camus, Sartre, Anouilh are some of the authors here until 1981. The directions that follow continue the path mapped out by their predecessors. Some names that then appeared on the theatre posters: Milan Kundera, Vaclav Havel, Jean-Claude Brisville, Jean-Pierre Bacri - authors - Georges Wilson, Stefan Meldegg - directors-in-stage - Daniel Gélin, Patrick Chesnais - actors… Two memorable shows among so many: The Woman sitting, from Copi with Marilu Marini, staged by Alfredo Arias, and Les Palmes by Jean-Noël Fenwick, Jean-Noël Fenwick. THÉÂTRE DE PARIS

Theater

There was a skating rink where since 1891 this hall has been named New theatre. The actor and director Lugné-Poë, the future founder of the theatre of the Works, is the founder. He defends Scandinavian authors like Ibsen and Strindberg, as well as Jarry, including Ubu King and here created with San Gémier in the title role in 1896. The actress Réjane bought the room in 1906 and gave her his name. She creates here Mrs. Sans-Gêne, from Victorian Sardou. It is when Léon Volterra resumes the place in 1918 that the current name is assigned to him. Marius and Fanny, by Marcel Pagnol, with Raimu, Orane Demazis and Pierre Fresnay, were triumphs in 1929 and 1931, respectively. Another success: Tovaritch, from Jacques Deval with Elvire Popesco. In 1955, this famous actress will take over from Marcel Karssenty and Pierre Dux who have been running the hall since 1948. Some memorable pieces: Tea and sympathy, with Ingrid Bergman, Pity it is a p…, with Romy Schneider and Alain Delon… During this period, a costume shop is transformed into a modern theatre, which finally takes the name of Petit théâtre in Paris. THÉÂTRE LA BRUYÈRE

Theater

The theatre of three hundred and sixty squares was created in 1943 by two actors, Georges Herbert and Paquita Claude. It's launched when in 1948, Robert Dhéry set up Les Branquignols, a crazy show mixing the insane humour of the Marx Brothers with a typically French drolatique spirit. Coming from the théâtre de la Death, Georges Vitaly took the direction of the room in 1954. Until 1982 he defended his contemporary authors, Jacques Audiberti in the lead. Stephan Meldegg then continues to serve the creators of his time in this theatre. Two notable pieces among others: What Fox, James Saunders, sees as being staged by Laurent Terzieff and Kitchen and Dependencies, Agnès Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri. Have played here in recent years: Rufus, Francis Perrin, Niels Arestrup, Philippe Clay, Philippe Laudenbach, Jean-Jacques Vanier… In 2007, Marguerite Gourgue succeeded Stephan Meldegg.

The return to music took place in 1991. The room then qualifies as Northwest Passage. It walks many artists, all styles, including many innovators. This time left very beautiful memories, although it was brief. The company of Elan has set up two rooms to which the names of the troupe of the company have been assigned prematurely. COMEDIE-FRANÇAISE THÉÂTRE DU VIEUX COLOMBIER

Theater

A top place in the history of the Parisian theatre, this room has depended on the Comédie-Française since the 1990 s. In 1913, the theatre of the Old Colombier opened its doors in the old Athenaeum Saint-Germain under Jacques Copeau's leadership. A theorist, director and actor, he leads a troupe that is resolutely determined to renovate drama, in an ascetic spirit - no spaces - opposed to the «cowardice of mercantile theatre». To be part of Louis Jouvet, Charles Dullin, Valentine Tessier… The classics and contemporary authors - Claudel, Gide… - are here. The company Pitoëff and Jean Tedesco took the lead in 1924. The Pitoëff create many memorable shows. In 1944, the camera was mounted in camera by Jean-Paul Sartre in a staged by Raymond Rouleau. As you can see, the Old Colombier is one of the places of cultural renewal that cristallise after the war in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. And that continues! Classified Historic monument in 1978, it was bought by the State in 1986. After staying closed for many years, Old Colombier flies Again in 1993. It became the second theatre of the Comédie-Française, which plays works mainly from the contemporary repertoire. The room was renovated by the architect Bernard Kohn. With three hundred places, it gives the spectators the impression that they are under the hull of a vessel overthrown by the shape of its wooden structure.

LE ZÉNITH

Village halls and multipurpose halls

It is very difficult to find an artist of any renown that the curriculum would not indicate a passage through Le Zenith. Either in front of a festival, or at a festival, of a support party to this or that. The programming is mainly oriented towards all forms of popular music: songs, rock, reggae, rap… At each concert, large crowds pass through a lot of the park of La Villette to join this strange construction of a metal frame covered with a silver canvas. Inside, it can accommodate up to six thousand people. The room is adjustable. So you can find yourself in a more or less large area, with seating seats or promenoirs. One of the strengths of the Zenith is that visibility remains correct. There is never more than 50 metres between you and the scene.

Le Zenith is the first new equipment to have opened its doors in the park of La Villette. Inaugurated in 1984, it is the work of architects Philippe Chaix and Jean-Paul Morel. The first artist to have occurred there is Renaud. It was for the then Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, that he was created. For a good time, the capital needed a large space to be organized with great concerts for young people. There was another installation for electric and hairy music: Pantin Racecourse, a top where the best formations of the 1970 s, babas, hard and punk, from Gong to The Clash, passing through Trust. Barbara went on as well. But it eventually gives way to this Zenith, whose concept is now declining in sixteen major French cities.

The director in stage Georges Vitaly initiated the creation of this open room in 1948. It is located in the old Paris of the Latin Quarter. The address was in the Caucasus, an Armenian restaurant hosted by Charles Aznavour's parents. Vitaly's goal is to have a place where to create new authors'performances such as Jacques Audiberti, Guillaume Hanoteau… Young actors made their first teeth there: Jacqueline Maillan, Claude Gensac, Pierre Mondy, François Chaumette, Jacques Fabbri, Michel Roux, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Zillah Chelton… Party to head the theatre of La Bruyère in 1952, Vitaly gave the direction of the room to Marcel Pinard that allows Ionesco to see her works mounted. Since February 16, 1957, the Bald Singer and the Learning of this Ionesco are played here. This is a record of global longevity! However, everything had gone wrong for these parts. The first was raised by Nicolas Battle aux Night in 1950, the second by Marcel Cuvelier in the Pocket Theatre the following year. Both have experienced a great deal of failures before they return to La. In 2007, the fiftieth anniversary of the event was celebrated. LE PETIT PALAIS MUSÉE DES BEAUX ARTS DE LA VILLE DE PARIS

Concert hall for classical music opera and dance

Le Petit Palais offers over 22 000 square metres a rich collection of works of great diversity: antique bronzes, icons, Flemish and Dutch paintings, tapestries, furniture, porcelain… You will also find a charming small garden surrounded by colonnades, with mosaic basins, and a café where you can spend a relaxing moment. The concerts given here at midday connect classic musicians with other artists from jazz or song. The concept proposed by Arièle Butaux, in perfect conformity with the project, could not stop so much as it met with the visitors. The dialogue between artists from different musical backgrounds and the strong emotion that emerges from each of these meetings on the stage of the auditorium is the living response to the principle of confrontation in the galleries of the museum. Paintings, sculptures and objects of art are highlighted in permanent collections and, in the auditorium, the other arts are at the honour of revealing in a lively and dynamic manner the multiple influences of artistic currents.

Concert hall for classical music opera and dance

Four universities are present in Sorbonne - Paris I, Paris III, Paris IV, Paris V -, as well as the rector of the Paris Academy, the School of charters and the Ecole normale des Hautes Etudes. Concerts are not as frequent as the courses in these famous buildings built at the end of the th century, but still. The association Musique en Sorbonne, created in 1982, organizes a quality concert season and a festival in June. There are various trainings, including the Choir and Orchestre de Paris-Sorbonne, the pre-professional formations associated with the FACULTY of Music and Musicology of the University Paris IV-Sorbonne. Since you cannot enter these high places of education if you are not a student or teacher, concerts represent wonderful opportunities to discover them. The concerts are given in the grand amphitheatre - three thousand squares - and the Richelieu amphitheatre - four hundred and fifty seats - two impressive rooms. The Grand Salon, decorated with Benjamin Constant paintings, is used for small training.
